Congress just wrapped one of the least productive sessions in modern history.
Democrats are scrambling to blame Republicans for the legislative train wreck.
But Eric Swalwell just exposed his own hypocrisy with one shocking admission.
Swalwell Takes Credit for Congress's Failure While Gunning for Governor
California Congressman Eric Swalwell went on national television this weekend to blast Republicans for the 119th Congress passing only 38 bills — the lowest legislative output in the first year of a new presidency since records began.
Swalwell blamed Republicans for lacking focus and refusing to work across the aisle.
"There wasn't much else being done in this Congress," Swalwell told MSNBC's The Weekend.¹
Then Swalwell dropped the admission that proves Republicans have been right all along about Democrat obstruction.
"Now, I will say I'm responsible for one of those 40 bills that was passed," Swalwell bragged. "It was a bipartisan piece of legislation to make it easier for mothers who are breastfeeding to travel through airports."¹
That's it. That's his accomplishment. Airport breast milk screening procedures.
While Swalwell was busy missing 70 of 81 roll call votes between September 19 and December 18 — an 86% absence rate — he wants voters to believe Republicans are the problem.²
The numbers tell a different story. The House took only 362 votes in the first session compared to 710 under the last Republican trifecta in 2015.¹
Ron Johnson Exposes Democrats' Real Strategy
Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson wasn't buying Swalwell's spin for one second.
Johnson went on national television Sunday and accused Democrats of engineering gridlock to sabotage President Donald Trump.
"The American public is pawns in the dysfunction," Johnson explained on Sunday Morning Features. "But again, understand Democrats, they want the shutdown."³
Johnson pointed to the record-breaking 43-day government shutdown standoff earlier this year as proof of Democrat obstruction.
"They were responsible for it because they don't want President Trump and Republicans to have success," Johnson stated. "So, if the American economy is collateral damage, they don't care because they just want power."³
Democrats held the government hostage over Obamacare subsidies that were supposed to be temporary pandemic relief. They blocked Republican spending bills and forced a crisis to score political points.
Johnson's accusation lines up perfectly with Washington Post data showing Congress sent roughly 40 bills to Trump's desk in 2025 — a modern record low.⁴
Swalwell's Track Record of National Security Failures
Swalwell attacking Republicans for lack of productivity is rich considering his own record of compromising national security.
Between 2011 and 2015, a Chinese spy named Christine Fang embedded herself in Swalwell's campaign and office while he served on the Dublin City Council and later Congress.⁵
Fang took part in fundraising for Swalwell's 2014 re-election campaign and helped place at least one intern in his congressional office according to Axios reporting.⁵
Federal investigators became so alarmed by Fang's activities they gave Swalwell a defensive briefing in 2015 about the Chinese intelligence threat. Fang fled the country shortly after.⁵
The House Ethics Committee spent two years investigating Swalwell's ties to the suspected Chinese spy before closing the case in 2023 — but not before House Speaker Kevin McCarthy blocked Swalwell from the Intelligence Committee over national security concerns.⁶
This is the same Eric Swalwell who now wants California voters to make him Governor.
Democrats Block Trump Agenda Then Complain About Results
Swalwell's hypocrisy runs deeper than his measly one-bill legislative record.
He's demanding bipartisan cooperation in 2026 while Democrats spent all of 2025 obstructing Trump's nominees and blocking Republican legislation.
"If Republicans want to work with us to bring down costs, reduce what we spend at the grocery store, they're going to find partners in us," Swalwell claimed.¹
That's a lie. Democrats voted in lockstep against tax cuts for working families. They blocked border security funding. They engineered government shutdowns to protect Obamacare subsidies.
Senator Johnson nailed it when he said Democrats view the American economy as "collateral damage" in their quest to return to power.³
Swalwell represents everything wrong with Washington, D.C. Democrats. He spent years cultivating relationships with Chinese intelligence operatives. He missed 86% of votes while campaigning for higher office. He passed exactly one bill about airport procedures.
Now he's running around California blaming Republicans for the dysfunction Democrats created. Voters deserve better than Eric Swalwell's brand of partisan blame-shifting and national security failures.
