The FBI verified Hunter Biden's laptop in November 2019 – then spent the next year telling social media companies it was Russian disinformation.
Now a U.S. senator just laid out the entire ten-year operation in five minutes on national television.
And Democrats on the committee sat there in silence.
How Russiagate Became the FBI's Blueprint for Targeting Trump
Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri didn't come to last week's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to debate. He came to read the case file out loud.
Hillary Clinton's campaign worked with a George Soros-linked organization to manufacture the Trump-Russia collusion narrative. They fed it to Obama-era intelligence agencies. The FBI and CIA used it to surveil a Republican presidential campaign – and then kept the operation running after Trump won.
Then the FBI buried the Hunter Biden laptop. Not because agents didn't know the truth – they had verified the laptop belonged to Biden's son in November 2019. They knew. They called it Russian disinformation anyway, meeting weekly with social media platforms to keep it suppressed. The American people never got to make an informed decision about the 2020 election because the FBI made that decision for them.
Three days after Joe Biden was inaugurated, the censorship campaign began. Three days after Trump announced his 2024 run, Jack Smith was appointed.
Schmitt named every domino. Clinton. Soros. Obama's FBI. Biden's DOJ. Alvin Bragg – whose lead prosecutor met with Biden's White House Counsel's Office before filing charges. The DOJ's third-ranking official leaving the department to help Bragg prosecute Trump in New York.
"They didn't like him," Schmitt said from the Senate dais. "They didn't like the disruption."
Arctic Frost: The FBI Operation That Spied on Republican Senators
The most explosive part of Schmitt's testimony wasn't about Russiagate.
Operation Arctic Frost – the Biden FBI's surveillance operation – didn't just target Trump. It tapped the phones of sitting United States senators. It subpoenaed records from over 400 Republican targets. It went after the Republican Attorneys General Association, which Schmitt himself chaired at the time.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley's oversight has released thousands of pages documenting what happened: FBI Director Christopher Wray personally signed off on opening Arctic Frost. Attorney General Merrick Garland signed off. The operation was opened in April 2022 – with a presidential election two years away.
Schmitt called it a hundred times worse than Watergate. Nixon's men broke into a hotel room. Biden's FBI tapped U.S. senators' phones and built cases against hundreds of Americans for their political views.
James Comey Indicted: What the FBI Hid in a Locked Room
The Comey indictment confirmed the pattern.
Former FBI Director James Comey was charged in September 2025 with lying to Congress – specifically for denying he had authorized anyone at the FBI to leak anonymously to the media about the Clinton and Trump investigations. His own deputy, Andrew McCabe, had already told the Inspector General otherwise.
The bureau Comey ran was the same bureau that hid documents in a locked room at FBI headquarters – a room Kash Patel's team discovered only after taking over the building.
Schmitt pointed out the double standard with crystalline clarity. If a Republican senator had stood on Supreme Court steps warning justices they would "reap a whirlwind" – and a right-wing gunman had then targeted a liberal justice – cities would be burning. Instead, a Democrat did exactly that. The shooter got eight years from a Democrat-appointed judge.
The Conspiracy Statute Has No Off-Ramp
Schmitt gave the clearest legal framework anyone has put on the record.
"If you're a co-conspirator at mile marker one, even if you want to get on the exit ramp at mile marker five, you are liable for the conspiracy at mile marker ten."
Then he said it plainly: we are at mile marker ten.
The statute of limitations may have expired on individual acts. But a decade-long conspiracy involving Clinton operatives, Soros-linked organizations, Obama-era FBI leadership, Biden-era DOJ officials, state prosecutors, and special counsel staff runs on a different legal clock. Conspiracy charges don't reset every time a new participant joins or an old one walks away.
Schmitt also noted that the prosecutor being questioned declined to answer certain questions at the hearing – and read it the way any experienced attorney general would. You don't go silent because you're stubborn. You go silent because something is ongoing.
The American people watched this play out for ten years. Clinton called them deplorables. Obama called them bitter clingers. Biden called them trash. They rose up anyway, sat in their own jury box, and rejected it twice. What Schmitt put on the record Tuesday wasn't a political speech. It was a closing argument – and the accountability he's describing is the only thing that makes sure this never happens again.
