Donald Trump Turned DC Into a War Zone for Criminals and the Numbers Prove He Won

Aug 12, 2026

Eric Tarpinian-Jachym was on his way to dinner when teenagers in a stolen car fired 79 shots and killed him one mile from the White House.

That was one year ago – and the people who said Trump couldn't fix it are very quiet right now.

Trump just hit the first anniversary of the Make DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force, and what happened next is something Democrats are not going to want you to read.

16,000 Arrests in One Year

More than 16,000 arrests in 365 days.

Thirty-five homicide suspects are off the streets.

Nearly 2,000 illegal guns seized.

3,200 narcotics arrests completed.

More than 100 known gang members pulled out of neighborhoods where they were preying on residents.

And twenty-five missing children – twenty-five kids somebody thought were gone forever – found and brought home.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche summed up the year: "More than 16,000 arrests, thousands of illegal drugs and firearms taken off the streets, and dangerous violent offenders brought to justice mean safer neighborhoods and lives protected. We will not relent until every community in Washington, D.C., is safe."

That is not a press release.

That is a year of results.

The Numbers Muriel Bowser Doesn't Want You to See

Homicides in Washington, D.C. dropped 60 percent in 2025.

Carjackings dropped 68 percent.

Robberies dropped 49 percent.

Overall crime dropped 32 percent.

And in 2026, the numbers kept falling – homicides down another 50 percent, carjackings down 60 percent, overall crime down 25 percent.

Trump said it at his State of the Union in February: "Crime in Washington is now at the lowest level ever recorded."

Now remember what Mayor Muriel Bowser said when Trump deployed the National Guard in August 2025.

"I don't think it's legal, let me start there, for the National Guard to police Americans on American soil," she said.

She called it "unsettling."

She went on MSNBC and told the country D.C. was not experiencing a crime spike.

The numbers just called her bluff.

What This Proves About Democrats and Crime

Eric Tarpinian's killers had prior violent juvenile records.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said it at their arrest announcement: "They never believed they would be punished, so they kept moving."

That sentence explains twenty years of Democrat-run D.C. in eleven words.

Democrat politicians built a city where violent teenagers drove stolen cars and opened fire into a crowd because they had learned – correctly – that nothing would happen to them.

They were right – until Trump showed up.

The National Guard troops Bowser called "not the most efficient use of our Guard" saved lives.

Two of them nearly lost their own.

In November, an Afghan national named Rahmanullah Lakanwal ambushed two West Virginia National Guard members in downtown D.C.

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20 years old, was shot in the head and died on Thanksgiving.

Sergeant Andrew Wolfe was shot in the head and fought his way back.

Brigadier General Leland Blanchard honored them both: "Sgt. Sarah Beckstrom gave the last full measure of devotion, and Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe endured a profound sacrifice in service to others. Their courage will forever be part of this mission's legacy."

Bowser called the deployment illegal.

Beckstrom paid for keeping those streets safe with her life.

That contrast should end the debate permanently.

What Trump proved in Washington is not complicated.

Send in law enforcement with actual authority to arrest actual criminals and hold them accountable, and crime collapses.

Sixty percent fewer homicides is not a rounding error.

It is a policy verdict.

Democrats ran D.C. for decades and delivered a capital city where a 21-year-old intern couldn't walk to dinner without getting shot.

Trump had it for twelve months and produced the safest city on record.

The blueprint exists.

Chicago knows it.

Los Angeles knows it.

Every Democrat-run city drowning in crime knows exactly what works – and exactly why their leaders will never allow it.
