The Left spent years calling JD Vance a couch-sitting joke from Appalachia.
Now Trump is sitting in the Oval Office telling Breitbart News his VP is doing a great job – and even Bill Maher just admitted Vance might get his vote in 2028.
What Trump said about JD Vance is what winning looks like.
Trump Said It Plainly in the Oval Office
Trump didn't hedge when Breitbart asked him about Vance's book tour.
"I think he's doing a great job," Trump said. "He's a smart guy. I picked him because he's smart, very simple. I didn't pick him for his views so much. I picked him because he's smart."
Vance earned that endorsement the hard way this summer.

He flew to Switzerland to broker the memorandum of understanding with Iran, halting a conflict the media was calling unwinnable.
He published Communion, a book about his 2019 conversion to Catholicism, the day before the Iran deal was signed – turning a book tour into a victory lap.
He stood on the deck of the USS Kearsarge on July 4th and told America to reject the leftists who preach about our sins without offering any grace – with tall ships from 20 nations sailing behind him as a backdrop.
Thirty-three interviews in June alone.
A Trump adviser summed it up simply: "The president doesn't watch The View. But he saw the clips and loved what he saw."
The Moment Bill Maher Handed Vance a 2028 Campaign Ad
Vance showed up at CBS Television City on June 26th – American airstrikes on Iran were still underway – and became the first sitting vice president ever to appear on Real Time with Bill Maher.
Maher tried to pin him on ICE, on the Iran deal, on election denial.
Vance talked circles around him.

By the end of the hour, Maher – a man who has spent years ridiculing the MAGA movement – admitted his vote was in play.
"If this is where the Democratic Party is going," Maher said, with Vance sitting three feet away, "this obsession with Israel, with the Jew-hating, with they don't believe in capitalism, no prisons – if this is where they're going, my vote is in play."
He named Vance or Rubio as the Republicans he'd consider.
The Left immediately melted down online.
Maher fired back at his critics, saying they wouldn't be satisfied unless he'd punched Vance in the nose.
That's the tell – when the opposition's own media figures start breaking ranks, you're watching a movement consolidate.
The 2028 Math Is Already Stacking Up
Nobody in Washington saw these numbers coming this fast.
A Big Data Poll taken June 26-28 found Vance leading the entire GOP field with 35.4 percent support – more than double Marco Rubio's 16.5 percent in second place.
At CPAC earlier this year, Vance swept 53 percent of the straw poll.
In New Hampshire, Vance is sitting at 51 percent among likely Republican primary voters – a majority, not a plurality, before a single campaign dollar has been spent.

CNN's Harry Enten put it plainly: "JD Vance is like Mario Andretti and the rest of the GOP is going around in go karts when it comes to 2028."
A Rubio ally confirmed what the numbers already show: "Marco doesn't have pipe hitters. Vance does. JD's looking good."
This is what Trump saw when he looked at a first-generation Yale Law grad from Middletown, Ohio – a kid who got there on brains alone.
Trump said it himself: "Went to Yale without the benefit of a family that gets him in."
The Left built their entire narrative around mocking the couch story.
They never stopped to notice the guy had quietly become the most formidable political figure in America not named Donald Trump.
That's what smart looks like.
