Former federal prosecutor predicts Donald Trump is headed to jail
Democrat prosecutors waged lawfare against former President Donald Trump to derail his campaign.
Now, the only legal obstacle that Trump will likely face until Election Day is the sentencing hearing on September 18 for the phony crimes cooked up by Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Democrat Judge Juan Merchan – who was a donor to President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign – posted the sentencing from July after the Supreme Court’s ruling on Presidential immunity.
Normally, Trump wouldn’t be sentenced to jail for the charges he received and for his status as a first-time offender.
But the judge has been a biased hack who worked with Bragg to ensure that Trump was convicted in the trial.
Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy warned in a piece for Fox News that Merchan would likely sentence the former President to jail.
Trump’s legal team has been trying to get the judge to recuse himself from the case because of a conflict of interest over his political donations and his daughter’s work for a Democrat political consulting firm.
Merchan denied that motion to recuse himself.
“The judge has signaled that, come hell or high water, he intends to sentence Trump on September 18,” McCarthy stated. “If you’re keeping score, that would be two days after early voting in the 2024 election begins in Pennsylvania.”
Trump being sentenced to jail could be the next wildcard in the election
Trump’s legal team is trying to get the Manhattan case thrown out on Presidential immunity grounds because Bragg called witnesses who were White House staffers who should be inadmissible.
The former President’s communications with his White House staff are considered an official act of office and protected by the Supreme Court’s ruling.
McCarthy predicted that Merchan wouldn’t rule in Trump’s favor on immunity even if it gets thrown out on appeal later.
“The prosecutors and judge are not concerned about whether convictions ultimately get thrown out on appeal,” McCarthy wrote. “And it’s not like Merchan is actually going to put Trump in prison; it is virtually certain that Trump will get bail pending appeal, so Merchan can appear to impose a stiff incarceration sentence without any real incarceration – at least for now, and probably ever.”
President Joe Biden and now Vice President Kamala Harris have called Trump a convicted felon in their attacks on him during the campaign.
Sentencing him to jail is more ammunition for their attacks on him.
“The objective here is to enable Vice President Harris and the media-Democratic complex to label Trump ‘a convicted felon sentenced to prison’ just weeks before Election Day, at a time when Americans will already have started voting in many states, not least the potentially decisive Pennsylvania battleground,” McCarthy stated.
For now, it appears Donald Trump will have to deal with one more curveball from lawfare on his quest to return to the White House.
