Every president since Truman has tried and failed.
Donald Trump just did it in nine months.
And Donald Trump made sure Russia and China stay out of Greenland forever.
The Deal the Media Said Was Impossible
President Trump signed a permanent security agreement with Denmark and Greenland at the United Nations on Tuesday.
Two new major military bases.
Broad US military mobility across the entire territory – including undersea access.
A hard legal ban on Russia and China establishing any military presence on the island.
And a deal with no expiration date.
Trump posted the terms himself on Truth Social: “From now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval.”

The agreement expands America’s existing foothold at Pituffik Space Base – the remote installation currently watching Russia’s nuclear forces – and unlocks two new defense areas at Narsarsuaq in the south and Mestersvig in the east.
Washington, DC can establish additional bases beyond those if it chooses.
Denmark’s Prime Minister called it “a deal that can last forever.”
NATO’s Secretary General called it an enhancement of collective security.
Greenland’s Prime Minister called it “a win-win-win.”
This is a total strategic lockout of America’s two biggest adversaries in the most important piece of real estate on the planet.
What the Media Never Told You About the Arctic Race
Here is what was happening while Democrats mocked Trump for bringing up Greenland.
Russia reopened dozens of Cold War-era Arctic bases, stationed 11 nuclear-armed submarines on the Kola Peninsula, and built the world’s largest fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers.
Russia’s Arctic military presence currently outnumbers NATO’s by roughly a third.
China declared itself a “near-Arctic state” in 2018 and launched its “Polar Silk Road” initiative – a transparent attempt to use infrastructure investment to buy control of the region.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asked the question nobody in Washington wanted to answer: “Do we want the Arctic Ocean to transform into a new South China Sea?”
Greenland sits at the center of the GIUK Gap – the narrow corridor between Greenland, Iceland, and the UK where Russia’s nuclear submarine fleet would have to pass to reach the open Atlantic.
That passage is now ours to control.
What 80 Years of Weak Presidents Could Not Do
America has wanted this since Truman was in the White House.
In 1946, Truman formally offered Denmark $100 million in gold for Greenland.
A State Department official summarizing Joint Chiefs sentiment at the time put it plainly: “the control of Greenland is indispensable to the safety of the United States.”
Denmark said no.
The US military presence shrank from thousands of soldiers on 17 bases and installations to roughly 200 soldiers at a single remote outpost.
While America retreated, Russia advanced.
Trump raised the Greenland question in 2019 and the media laughed at him for six years.
The same people who laughed stood at the podium Tuesday while Denmark’s Prime Minister, Greenland’s Prime Minister, and NATO’s Secretary General all celebrated the agreement Trump forced into existence.

Trump didn’t just secure a military deal – he locked in American Arctic dominance for every president who comes after him.
Russia and China Were Playing for the Whole Board
Beijing and Moscow were never interested in Greenland’s fishing rights.
They were after the submarine choke point between two oceans, the rare earth mineral deposits needed to build missiles and fighter jets, and military positions that could one day threaten the American mainland.
China currently dominates the global supply of those critical minerals.
Greenland sits on top of massive deposits of them.
Melting sea ice is simultaneously opening new Arctic shipping routes that will reshape global trade – and the nation with the strongest military presence in the region will set the terms.
Trump saw all of this in 2019 when the foreign policy establishment dismissed him as a joke.
On Tuesday at the UN, Russia and China found out he was right.
