Donald Trump Replaced the Illegal Trucker Who Killed a Pennsylvania Cop With Something That Has Democrats Furious

Aug 3, 2026

Biden flew a Haitian national into Fort Lauderdale and Massachusetts handed him an 18-wheeler.

That trucker drifted out of his lane on Interstate 81 and killed Trooper Michael Pahira – a cop who had just moved home to care for his mother through cancer.

Donald Trump just announced who gets Pahira's killer's seat – and Democrats are already suing to stop it.

Biden's Trucking Disaster by the Numbers

Trooper Pahira's story is not an isolated tragedy.

Trump told Congress that at least 17 fatal crashes in 2025 killed 30 people – all involving illegal immigrants driving commercial vehicles with fraudulent or improperly issued CDLs.

An illegal immigrant from India killed three people on Florida's Turnpike after an illegal U-turn.

An Indian national crushed a 29-year-old man between two trucks in Washington state.

An illegal from India pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in a Southern California pileup that killed three more.

The Department of Transportation estimates somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 illegal immigrant truck drivers were operating on American highways – their employers cutting corners on licensing and verification to pad profits.

Biden's humanitarian parole program flew them in.

Blue states handed them licenses.

And Americans died.

What Freedom Haulers Actually Does

President Trump announced the White House's "Freedom Haulers" initiative Thursday, and it does two things at once.

First, it finishes the cleanup.

The DOT has already stripped more than 24,000 commercial driver's licenses under English-proficiency enforcement.

More than 28,000 CDLs were canceled after officials found they had been improperly issued to non-citizen drivers.

New York refused to comply – the Trump administration withheld $73 million in federal highway funding until they got the message.

Massachusetts fought the crackdown in court the entire time and is backing a lawsuit against the final rule – the same obstruction that allowed Michael Bon to renew his CDL in February 2026 despite being ordered out of the country eight months earlier.

Second, it fills the seats with people who actually earned the right to be here.

The DOT is extending the CDL waiver period for veterans from 12 months to 24 months after leaving active duty.

Veterans who drove heavy military vehicles get expedited licenses – they already know how to handle 80,000 pounds of steel at highway speed.

Indiana and Wyoming are joining the "Even Exchange" program, letting military truck drivers convert their skills directly to civilian CDLs without redundant testing.

Werner Enterprises – an Omaha-based company attending Thursday's announcement – committed to hiring 1,400 new veteran drivers.

The Numbers Democrats Don't Want You to See

The DOT's own data makes the case the left refuses to acknowledge.

Veteran truck drivers have 42% fewer accidents than the industry average.

They cover 98% more miles.

Real wages for truck drivers have climbed 7.42% under Trump – after falling 3% under Biden, when the industry flooded the market with cheap illegal labor.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said it plainly: "Trucking requires the precision, independence and discipline that they forged in the military – there's no one better to tackle the challenge."

He's right – and the industry data proves it.

Over 40,000 veterans have used military skills waivers to earn CDLs in the years before Freedom Haulers.

Trump isn't inventing a new program – he's turbocharged an existing pipeline and paired it with the enforcement Democrats spent two years trying to stop.

Massachusetts Renewed His CDL Eight Months After He Was Ordered Deported

Democrats screamed when the Trump administration started canceling CDLs.

They filed lawsuits.

Massachusetts actively fought the federal rule change and kept renewing licenses for drivers who had been ordered deported.

Their argument, at its core, was that cheap trucking labor – regardless of legal status, regardless of English proficiency, regardless of whether the driver could read an American road sign – was more important than the Americans getting killed.

Trooper Pahira had nearly 20 years on the Pennsylvania State Police.

He was conducting a routine commercial vehicle inspection when Michael Bon – ordered out of the country, still carrying a Massachusetts CDL – drifted into him at highway speed.

Biden let Bon in.

Massachusetts kept him licensed.

Democrats sued to keep the system exactly as it was.

Trump is replacing every one of those drivers with a veteran who defended this country and deserves a good-paying job when they come home.

The left calls that cruel.

The 30 Americans who died in 17 crashes last year might disagree – if they were still alive to ask.
