Ilhan Omar has spent years telling Americans how to run their country.
Trump spent about thirty seconds reminding everyone where she came from.
And the two words he used at a packed Florida rally had Omar firing back in a way she's going to regret.
Trump Brings the Crowd to Its Feet at The Villages
Speaking to thousands of supporters at The Villages in Florida on May 1, Trump went after Omar the way only Trump can – not with policy papers, but with a punchline the crowd will be repeating for weeks.
After laying into Somalia as a nation with no government, no military, and nothing going for it except crime, Trump turned his attention directly to Minnesota's most famous import.
"Ilhan Omar comes here from Somalia and tells us how to run the United States of America," Trump said.
"Get the hell out. What a phony."
Then came the imitation.

Trump played out what he's long claimed was a bedtime conversation between Omar and her brother, saying, "Darling, I love you very much. Good night, brother. Let's go to bed."
The crowd erupted.
This Isn't Just a Punchline – DHS Is Already Investigating
Trump wasn't just riffing.
He was speaking to an investigation that's already underway.
In December 2025, Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed on Newsmax that DHS is actively investigating whether Omar married her brother in 2009 to secure him U.S. citizenship.
Homan said he personally asked a top HSI fraud investigator to review the file. "There's no doubt he'd review the file," Homan said. "So I'm running that down."
In February 2026, DOJ Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon confirmed the same thing publicly – and was even more pointed about it.
"There are serious questions about the circumstances of the paperwork around that naturalization," Dhillon said. "I'll just leave it at that."

When the top civil rights lawyer at the DOJ says she'll "leave it at that" about a sitting congresswoman's citizenship, she's not being vague.
She's being careful.
Congress Tried to Pull the Records – and Got Shut Down
In January 2026, Rep. Nancy Mace moved during a House Oversight Committee hearing to subpoena Omar's immigration records directly.
The hearing was already focused on billions in taxpayer dollars stolen by a Somali-linked fraud network in Minnesota – the same network that flourished under Tim Walz.
Mace wanted the records to determine whether Omar's marriage constituted federal fraud, which carries prison time, steep fines, and deportation.
"Marrying a sibling is illegal in every state," Mace said. "The American people deserve the truth about our elected officials."
The motion was tabled.
Not by Democrats.
By both parties.
"Democrats and Republicans teamed up to kill our motion," Mace said afterward. "Washington did what it always does – protect its own."

That's the part the media won't tell you – both parties voted to bury it.
Omar Fires Back and Steps on a Rake
Omar responded to Trump on X within hours – and immediately reminded everyone why she keeps losing the messaging war.
"This unhinged rant would solicit anger if it wasn't coming from a criminal, who has 34 felony convictions, held accountable for rape and accused of being a pedo," Omar posted.
In one sentence, Omar called the sitting President of the United States a criminal, a rapist, and a pedophile.
The left called Trump's Florida comments "dangerous rhetoric."
Omar calling the President a pedophile apparently doesn't count.
You Already Knew This – Trump Just Made Sure Nobody Could Pretend Otherwise
Here's what connects everything.
Every time Trump says "good night, brother," he forces the media to cover a story they spent years calling a conspiracy theory – while Homan and Dhillon quietly confirm an active investigation behind the scenes.
The establishment protected her for years.
Trump just made that protection impossible to maintain.
