Donald Trump Just Proved Every Democrat Wrong and the Numbers Are Impossible to Deny

Jul 16, 2026

Democrats spent two years screaming that Donald Trump's tariffs would destroy your wallet.

June's inflation report just landed – and it blew every single one of their predictions straight to hell.

Consumer prices just fell at the fastest pace in six years – and the one category Democrats said tariffs would destroy just posted its lowest reading in years.

The Numbers Democrats Are Going to Pretend Don't Exist

The Bureau of Labor Statistics dropped a bombshell Tuesday morning.

Consumer prices fell 0.4 percent in June – the steepest one-month decline in over six years.

Economists had predicted a 0.1 percent drop.

Trump delivered four times better than expected.

Annual inflation is now running at 3.5 percent, down sharply from 4.2 percent in May – crushing the 3.8 percent forecast.

Here is the number that matters most: core goods prices – everything outside food and energy – fell 0.2 percent and are up just 0.8 percent for the entire year.

Remember that.

Because Democrats told you that Trump's tariffs would function as a national sales tax on American families.

They were wrong.

The Tariff Lie Just Died in the Data

Core goods prices rising 0.8 percent annually – clothes, cars, household products – is not a tariff catastrophe.

That is one of the lowest core goods inflation readings in years.

Gas prices drove the monthly headline number lower, falling 9.7 percent in June after spiking during the Iran conflict.

But gas prices moving up and down are energy markets doing what they always do.

The persistent, underlying inflation that tariffs were supposed to cause?

It isn't there.

Shelter costs rose just 0.1 percent in June – the best reading in over five years.

Medical care declined 0.1 percent.

Car insurance fell 2.0 percent.

Apparel dropped 0.6 percent.

This is not an economy being crushed by tariffs.

The Fed Just Ran Out of Reasons to Hike

Before this morning, markets were pricing a real chance that the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates at its July 29 meeting.

Fed Governor Christopher Waller had signaled hawkishness earlier this month.

Bank of America was projecting three rate hikes before year-end.

This report just changed the math.

Core CPI – flat for the month – came in below every major forecast.

That is the best core inflation reading since January 2021.

A Federal Reserve that was genuinely data-dependent just got handed the clearest signal in years: inflation is cooling faster than anyone predicted.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has kept rates at 3.50 to 3.75 percent for four straight meetings.

Today's report makes a July hike extremely unlikely – and a rate cut conversation before year-end suddenly a lot more realistic.

Lower rates mean cheaper mortgages, cheaper car loans, and cheaper small business financing.

That is real money back in the pockets of people who actually work for a living.

The Economists Who Called It a Catastrophe Just Got Their Answer

Inflation peaked above 9 percent under Biden.

It is now at 3.5 percent and falling faster than Wall Street's best economists predicted.

Core goods inflation – the category where tariffs were supposed to do the most damage – is running below 1 percent annually.

The economists who called tariffs a catastrophe got it wrong.

The media outlets that ran those predictions got it wrong.

The politicians who voted against every piece of Trump's trade agenda got it wrong.

And American families who kept faith with this president – who went to the grocery store and filled the gas tank and showed up to work while Democrats lectured them about economic theory – deserve to know that the plan is working.
