Donald Trump Just Gave Every American Baby a Thousand Dollars and the Stock Market Is Already Growing It

Jul 9, 2026

On the Fourth of July, Trump rang the opening bell from the Oval Office and deposited $1,000 into over 500,000 American babies' stock market accounts simultaneously.

Six million families have already signed up – and the money is already compounding.

What those accounts could be worth by the time your grandchild turns 18 will stop you cold.

How Trump Accounts Work and What They Could Be Worth

Trump Accounts launched July 4th as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill – tax-advantaged investment accounts for every American child under 18 with a Social Security number.

That $1,000 federal seed goes directly into a low-cost S&P 500 index fund, locked in until the child turns 18.

Parents, grandparents, employers, churches, and charities can add up to $5,000 per year on top of that.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the launch "a historic occasion," noting that over 6 million accounts are already open and 1.4 million newborns are set to receive the federal contribution.

"The American Dream belongs to every child," Bessent said, "and today we are equipping the next generation with the right to claim their rightful share of it."

The White House projects that a child who receives only the $1,000 federal seed – no additional contributions – would have roughly $5,800 at age 18.

Add $5,000 per year from family or employer, and that number climbs to $271,000 by the child's 18th birthday – and, per TrumpAccounts.gov projections, potentially $13 million by retirement age.

America's Biggest Companies Are Piling In

And that is just the beginning.

Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs both announced they will match the $1,000 federal contribution for their employees' eligible children.

JPMorgan Chase, Robinhood, BlackRock, Charles Schwab, Nvidia, IBM, Intel, and Uber are all adding Trump Account contributions to their benefits packages.

Twenty-six states – including Georgia, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee – are contributing on behalf of their residents.

Michael Dell committed more than anyone else in the private sector.

"Susan and I didn't want the children that were born just before to be completely left out," Dell said, pledging $6.25 billion of his own money – $250 for each of 25 million children born between 2016 and 2024.

SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell added contributions for children ages 11 to 17 in lower-income areas near company operations.

Eighty-eight entities total have committed funds as of this week, per Americans for Tax Reform.

Why This Is Different From Anything That Came Before

The UK tried a version of this starting in 2005 – the Child Trust Fund, which seeded accounts with £250 per newborn.

It worked.

Savings rates rose among low-income families, grandparents started contributing, and kids arrived at 18 with real assets instead of just a diploma and debt.

The British government killed the program in 2011 during austerity cuts.

Trump's version is bigger, market-linked, and built to last.

The accounts are structured as custodial IRAs – owned by the child, managed by a parent or guardian until age 18, then converting automatically to a traditional IRA.

Investments are limited to low-cost U.S. stock market index funds during the growth period, with fees capped at 0.10%.

No leverage. No speculation.

Just the American economy doing what it does over time.

What the Establishment Democrats Refused to Build

Here is the part the mainstream media will not tell you.

Democrats had their own version of this idea – Senator Cory Booker's American Opportunity Accounts, which proposed seeding every newborn's account with $1,000 and adding government contributions each year scaled to family income.

They never passed it.

They talked about the wealth gap for decades.

They ran the White House for four years between Trump's terms.

They did nothing.

Trump did it in one bill, got it signed, pulled the private sector in alongside the government, and lit the fuse on July 4th – America's 250th birthday.

That is the difference between a party that talks about the working class and a president who delivers for it.

Every conservative who spent thirty years listening to the Democrats lecture about wealth inequality just watched Trump solve a piece of it – with a market-based approach that grows wealth instead of redistributing poverty.

If you want to open an account for a grandchild, or add money to one already open, go to TrumpAccounts.gov and file IRS Form 4547.

The greatest gift you ever gave that child just got a $1,000 head start from the United States government.
