James Comey is already facing a federal grand jury.
Now Trump is publicly demanding Barack Obama face the same reckoning – and the evidence sitting behind that demand is something the media is working overtime to bury.
And Donald Trump has every reason to say what he said.
The Man Who Built the Weapon Is Warning About Weapons
"We can't overcome the politicization of the criminal justice system," Obama told Colbert at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, in one of The Late Show's final episodes before its May 21 farewell.
"You can't have a situation in which whoever is in charge of the government starts using that to go after their political enemies or reward their friends," he added.
Seven days earlier, the man Obama appointed to run the FBI was indicted for the second time.
James Comey – the FBI director who signed FISA warrant applications used to spy on Donald Trump's 2016 campaign – is now a two-time federal defendant.

His second indictment landed April 28, announced at a DOJ press conference by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche standing alongside FBI Director Kash Patel.
Obama recorded his Colbert interview knowing all of that.
Then he told America we need to work on "restoring some sense of the Justice Department being independent."
What Kash Patel Said on the Record
The week before Obama's Colbert appearance, Patel went on Hang Out with Sean Hannity and said something the press almost entirely ignored.
The sitting FBI director – not a political commentator, not a congressional critic, the man who actually runs the bureau – stated publicly that the FBI lied to a secret federal court to spy on Donald Trump.
"The FISA court themselves came back and said these warrants were illegal," Patel told Hannity. "The FBI did not provide evidence of exculpatory evidence and innocence and that the FBI essentially lied in those applications and all the information was unverified."

Some of those warrant applications were signed by Comey.
Patel was explicit about where the operation started: a political party went overseas, hired an intelligence asset to manufacture fake information, funneled those packaged lies to the FBI, and used them to get a secret court to authorize surveillance of the opposing presidential candidate.
"I don't think that's ever happened before," Patel said. "Hollywood couldn't come up with this."
The Investigation Is Already Moving Up the Chain
Here is what the press is not putting together.
John Brennan – Obama's CIA director, the man who delivered the 2017 intelligence assessment claiming Russia helped Trump win – is a grand jury target.
His own lawyers have confirmed it.
Prosecutors in Miami under U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones have issued multiple rounds of subpoenas seeking testimony and documents about Brennan's role in the Russia narrative.
Former DNI Tulsi Gabbard sent a criminal referral to the DOJ concluding that Obama officials promoted a "contrived narrative that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help President Trump win, selling it to the American people as though it were true. It wasn't."

Comey is a two-time defendant.
Brennan is a grand jury target.
The chain of command for every decision in this operation ran through Barack Obama's White House.
Obama Chose the Worst Possible Week to Give That Speech
Obama went on Colbert knowing Comey had just been indicted for the second time.
He knew prosecutors in Florida were pressing toward charges against his CIA director.
He knew Patel had gone on national television and confirmed the FISA court declared the warrants illegal.

He went on anyway – and called for "restoring" the independence of the institution his own administration turned into a surveillance operation against a rival presidential campaign.
Trump called for Obama's arrest this week.
The press spent two days covering it as a social media meltdown.
But the investigation building in Florida has already reached the two men who sat closest to Obama when the operation launched.
The only question left is how far up Todd Blanche is willing to go.
Obama just went on television and showed everyone exactly how nervous he is.
