Donald Trump Gave the Christopher Columbus Statue that BLM Threw in the Harbor a New Home at the White House

Mar 26, 2026

BLM rioters dumped a Christopher Columbus statue into Baltimore's harbor on the Fourth of July, 2020.

That was supposed to be the end of it.

Now that same statue – rebuilt from the pieces they left at the bottom of the harbor – is standing on the White House grounds.

The Baltimore Columbus Statue BLM Destroyed Is Now on White House Grounds

The base says it all: "Destroyed July 4, 2020." Right beneath that: "Resurrected 2022."

On Sunday, the restored 13-foot, one-ton Columbus statue was installed outside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building – steps from the White House, visible to anyone walking down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Italian Americans built the original in Baltimore's Little Italy and unveiled it in 1984 alongside President Ronald Reagan.

It stood there for 36 years – until the summer of 2020, when a mob lassoed it, dragged it down, and rolled it into the Jones Falls canal while the crowd cheered as it shattered on the pavement.

Baltimore's then-mayor called it part of a "national reexamination."

The city's council president said he couldn't support Columbus.

When the Conference of Presidents of Major Italian American Organizations rebuilt the statue from the salvaged marble fragments and offered it back to Baltimore, the city refused to install it.

So they called Trump.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle delivered the administration's answer: "In this White House, Christopher Columbus is a hero, and President Trump will ensure he's honored for generations to come."

Columbus Day Was Born From the Largest Mass Lynching in American History

Every Columbus statue in America carries a history the woke mob deliberately ignores.

Columbus Day wasn't invented to celebrate colonialism.

It was created in 1892 as a direct response to the murder of 11 Italian immigrants outside New Orleans' Parish Prison on March 14, 1891 – the largest mass lynching in American history.

Those men had just been acquitted in a murder trial.

A mob of thousands – including future mayors and governors – stormed the prison anyway, dragged them out, and killed them all.

Italy severed diplomatic relations with the United States.

President Benjamin Harrison faced an international crisis, and his response was to declare the first Columbus Day – an olive branch to Italian Americans who were being lynched and treated as second-class citizens in their adopted country.

COPOMIAO President Basil M. Russo laid it out plainly: for over a century, Columbus statues served as anchors of identity for more than 18 million Italian Americans who needed a symbol of dignity as they built new lives in a country that often treated them as enemies.

When BLM tore down the Baltimore statue, they weren't erasing Columbus.

They were erasing that story – the story of Italian immigrants who faced mob violence, who used a historical figure as a rallying point to survive in a hostile country.

Trump's National Garden of American Heroes Is Getting Its First Monument

The Columbus installation is part of something bigger.

Trump's administration has been systematically restoring monuments the 2020 mobs destroyed – a statue of Albert Pike in Washington, D.C., a Confederate memorial at Arlington, and now Columbus at the White House.

The National Garden of American Heroes – funded with $40 million through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act – is moving forward, with 250 statues of the greatest Americans who ever lived planned ahead of the country's 250th birthday on July 4, 2026.

The left's plan in 2020 was permanent erasure.

Baltimore wasn't brave enough to bring it back – the city refused to reinstall it even after Italian Americans rebuilt it with their own resources.

Trump was.

And now anyone walking past the Eisenhower Executive Office Building can read what's carved into that base – what those rioters tried to make history forget – and know exactly what happened and what it cost to bring it back.
