In 2018, a 28-year-old bartender knocked off the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House and the media called it a fluke.
Eight years later, Mamdani's socialists just swept three New York congressional seats in a single night.
And Donald Trump looked straight at the camera and told them exactly what happens next.
"The Communists are finally making their move," Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday. "I've been waiting and preparing for this for a long time."
That is not a talking point.
That is a man who has spent a decade watching this movement grow from 6,000 members to over 100,000 – and who knows exactly what it means when they stop winning one race at a time and start running the table.
What Actually Happened in New York Tuesday Night
Three socialist insurgents backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – himself a democratic socialist – defeated establishment Democrats in districts so blue they haven't seen a Republican in decades.

Brad Lander crushed sitting Congressman Dan Goldman by 30 points.
Darializa Avila Chevalier – a 32-year-old community organizer and PhD student who once called the United States "a f—— disgrace" and referred to America as "occupied" Native American land – beat five-term incumbent Adriano Espaillat, chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Claire Valdez took the open seat that retiring Rep. Nydia Velázquez had tried to hand to her chosen successor.
Three for three.
On the same night, DSA-aligned candidates picked up at least six seats in the New York state legislature, bringing their total bloc in Albany to at least 15 lawmakers.
This Is Not New and That Is the Point
AOC's 2018 primary upset over a ten-term Democratic caucus chair looked identical to Tuesday night – unknown challenger, establishment incumbent, deep-blue district, landslide result.
The pattern has now repeated in New York, Seattle, Washington D.C., and soon Los Angeles, where DSA candidate Nithya Raman is leading in the mayoral race.
Rep. Mike Lawler called it within hours of the results: "The Democrat party has officially become the party of Zohran, AOC, and Bernie."

The socialist who beat Espaillat is not just further left than AOC – she has written favorably about communism and seizing "all properties from landlords" and has criticized Bernie Sanders for being too moderate on Israel.
Bernie Sanders is now the centrist in this argument.
Polling this week showed DSA candidates with a net favorability of +17 among Democrats – compared to just +4 for congressional Democrats as a whole.
They are a better brand than the party they are taking over.
Trump Has Seen This Movie Before – and He Knows the Ending
Trump's Truth Social post was not rhetorical.
"It's easy to be a Communist – All you have to do is say, 'I'll give you everything,' but that means you're taking it away from others that have earned it. Over thousands of years, that Ideology has not worked once. The game is on," he wrote.
He called this years ago.
While establishment Republicans were debating how to be more "inclusive" and mainstream media was declaring socialism newly popular, Trump was the only national figure willing to name what was happening – and frame it clearly for the 75 million Americans who see a Democrat promising free everything and immediately understand that someone else is paying for it.
That framing is now the entire Republican strategy going into November.
The NRCC put it in a statement within hours of Tuesday's results: the Democratic Party "officially belongs to the socialists."

And here is what the media will not tell you about that: it is a winning message almost everywhere except New York City.
Fox News analyst Howard Kurtz noted this week that socialist candidates "can swim in blue waters but not in the larger green ocean of voters" in competitive districts – and DSA has yet to win a single general election outside a major city.
The districts Mamdani's candidates just captured are so safe that the November elections are formalities – but every competitive House seat in America is now being asked the same question: do you stand with Mamdani's New York, or do you stand with America?
Republicans want that question on the ballot in every swing district this fall.
Trump just made sure it will be.
