Someone just tried to assassinate the President of the United States.
King Charles III got on the plane anyway.
Trump saw that and called it what it was – brave – and the word means something coming from a man who doesn't hand out compliments to foreign leaders who haven't earned them.
What It Took to Make This Visit Happen
The security services of both countries were on emergency calls all weekend.
An apparent assassination attempt targeting Trump and senior members of his executive team had just been thwarted.
The question wasn't whether the state visit would be adjusted.
The question was whether it would happen at all.
Charles said yes.
By Monday afternoon he and Queen Camilla were on the South Lawn of the White House – military honor guard at Andrews, both national anthems, motorcade into Washington, tea on the State Floor.

Everything on schedule.
Dictators and adversaries spend their careers looking for signs that America can be rattled, that an attack on the President changes the calculus, that the country flinches.
Charles just made sure they didn't see one.
The Last Time This Happened, the Cold War Was Still Running
The last British monarch to address a joint session of Congress was Queen Elizabeth II.
The year was 1991.
George H.W. Bush was president, the Soviet Union was six months from collapse, and the Anglo-American alliance was the backbone of the free world's victory in the Cold War.
Charles standing before Congress this week is the same statement, updated for a different era.
Democrats spent four years telling anyone who would listen that Trump had torched America's alliances – that our closest partners wanted nothing to do with him, that he'd left the country isolated, that the grown-ups in Europe were waiting for Biden to restore what Trump had broken.
The King of England just flew across the Atlantic to address Congress at Donald Trump's personal invitation.
That argument is over.
Melania Built Something and Showed the Queen of England
There's a reason the White House didn't bury the beehive detail.
Melania unveiled the expanded South Lawn apiary on Friday.
By Monday she was personally walking Queen Camilla through it.
This is what a functioning White House looks like – a First Lady with a real project, a real presence, and a role in state diplomacy that doesn't require a press release to explain itself.
The state banquet later this week is the formal centerpiece, where Trump and Charles exchange speeches the way they did at Windsor Castle last year.

The Alliance Democrats Said Trump Destroyed Just Showed Up at His Front Door
Here's what fires me up about this visit.
Four years of Biden.
Four years of being told the adults were back, the alliances were restored, the world respected America again.
And what did they do with it?
They handed the border to cartels, handed Afghanistan to the Taliban, and handed the State of the Union address to a man who couldn't finish a sentence.
Now Trump is back and the King of England – four days after someone tried to kill the President – is standing on the South Lawn posing for photographs with Melania.

Charles didn't have to come.
Nobody would have blamed him for staying home.
He came because the man in the White House right now is worth making the trip for.
Trump called him brave.
He was right.
And the Democrats who spent four years insisting Trump had no allies, no partners, and no place on the world stage don't have an answer for the image of the King and Queen of England walking through Melania Trump's garden.
