Donald Trump Called Democrats Human Garbage and Now He Wants the Filibuster Gone

May 9, 2026

Eric Holder just got hired to protect the same elections he spent years trying to control.

Trump saw it and went nuclear on Truth Social.

Now he's demanding Senate Republicans do the one thing that would change American elections forever.

The Man Chuck Schumer Just Put in Charge of Your Elections

Eric Holder is not a neutral election observer.

He is the chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee – an operation he launched eight days before Trump's first inauguration, specifically to dismantle Republican electoral maps before the 2020 census.

His affiliated nonprofit, the National Redistricting Foundation, bankrolled the lawsuits that shredded North Carolina's Republican-drawn congressional maps in 2019 – what the Wall Street Journal called a "redistricting coup."

By the 2020 election cycle, Holder's operation was pulling in nearly $6 million – double its 2018 haul – funded by George Soros's Democracy PAC, Hollywood money from J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg, and Swiss mega-donor Hansjörg Wyss.

That is the man Chuck Schumer just hired to oversee the 2026 midterms.

Trump responded on Truth Social Saturday, calling Holder and his Democratic allies "human garbage" who "RIGGED the 2020 Presidential Election" and warning that "they're coming, and they're coming fast."

He's right.

The Filibuster Is the Last Wall Between Democrats and the 2026 Midterms

The SAVE Act – the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act – would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and dramatically curtail mail-in voting.

It has already passed the House.

It has cleared 50 Republican senators on record in support – but the filibuster requires 60 votes, and Schumer has publicly committed every Democrat to killing it.

"The only thing Republicans are trying to save with this legislation is their own skin," Schumer said this week.

That is not an argument against the bill.

That is a confession that Democrats know the bill would cost them the midterms.

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, the bill's Senate sponsor, said exactly that – posting a Polymarket chart showing Democrats are now favored to retake the Senate in November and framing the SAVE Act as the difference between saving the republic and losing it.

Trump's answer is to end the filibuster and pass the bill now.

Sen. Ron Johnson told Fox News the country is in a "moment of national danger" and cannot afford the kind of gridlock that lets 41 Democrats veto election security with zero accountability.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has so far resisted – warning that there are "not even close" to enough Republicans willing to go nuclear.

That resistance is the story.

This Is Exactly the Playbook They Used in 2020

Here's what Democrats don't want you connecting.

In September 2020, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court – in a lawsuit brought by the Pennsylvania Democratic Party – rewrote that state's election rules weeks before the presidential election.

Drop boxes were legalized across the state.

The mail ballot receipt deadline was extended three days past Election Day.

Holder's operation was embedded in the legal infrastructure behind that push – his National Redistricting Foundation had spent years funding the lawsuits that softened Republican-controlled election law across key battleground states before a single vote was cast.

Now Schumer is activating the same machine for 2026.

Holder's task force doesn't need to win in the Senate.

It needs to run out the clock – slow the SAVE Act in the Senate, challenge any version that passes in court, and ensure the November elections happen under the same loose rules Democrats engineered in 2020.

Trump sees the clock.

That's why he's not asking Thune to negotiate – he's telling him to end the filibuster and pass the bill before Holder's lawyers get into position.

The question is whether Senate Republicans understand that stalling today is a permanent loss on election security tomorrow.

In 2017, they had the votes to eliminate the legislative filibuster and walked away.

If they blink again in 2026 – with an assassination attempt behind them, a midterm ahead of them, and Eric Holder being paid to run out the clock – there is no one left to blame but themselves.
