Dennis Quaid tells the country it’s a time for choosing
Former President Donald Trump raised eyebrows when he decided to venture to Vice President Kamala Harris’ home state of California to hold a campaign rally.
Trump traveled to Coachella, California, near where the annual Coachella music festival is held.
The Southern California area is home to several House races that could determine whether Republicans hold onto the majority after the election.
Actor Dennis Quaid was one of the warmup speakers for Trump.
He’s been an outspoken supporter of the former President while he was promoting his biopic Reagan, which was released in August.
Quaid said that it was time for the country “to pick a side” in his speech.
“Hello, everybody. God bless you. God bless America,” Quaid said. “I’m here today to tell you that it’s time to pick a side.”
He laid out the choices in front of the country in this election.
“Are we going to be a nation that stands for the Constitution or for TikTok?” Quaid asked.
“Are we going to be a nation of law and order or wide open borders?” Quaid continued. “Which is it? Because it’s time to pick a side.”
The parallels between Donald Trump and Ronald Reagan
Quaid compared the situation that Trump would be walking into as President next to what Ronald Reagan faced when he was elected in 1980.
“You know, I’m an actor and I just had this movie come out that’s, it was a famous last name: Reagan. My favorite President of the 20th century,” Quaid said. “And it’s amazing how the issues of the 1980 Election are very similar to what they are today.”
The actor pointed out that when Reagan was elected, the country was dealing with rampant inflation, high interest rates, and the Iranian hostage crisis.
“We were a nation in decline. That’s what they told us,” Quaid recalled. “Ronald Reagan came along and said, no, we’re not a nation in decline. We’re going there. And we followed him.”
“The same with Trump,” Quaid continued. “With President Trump. My favorite President of the 21st century.”
Quaid said that the Biden-Harris administration’s war on American energy production left the country going hat-in-hand to Saudi Arabia and Venezuela for oil.
“Today, all you gotta do is go to the grocery store, go to the gas station, go to the department store; there’s evidence enough right there that we know that, that fairy tale called Harris-Bidenomics just doesn’t work,” Quaid explained.
The actor recalled the question that Reagan asked during the lone debate of the 1980 Presidential election against former President Jimmy Carter.
“Are you better off now then you were four years ago?” Quaid asked.
President Joe Biden gave the country Carter’s second term.
