For four years, Democrats blamed Congress for the border crisis.
Now border crossings have hit a 55-year low without a single new law.
Turns out enforcement works – and Democrats knew it all along.
Border Security Without New Laws: How Trump Did What Democrats Said Was Impossible
Border Patrol recorded 237,538 migrant encounters in fiscal year 2025.
That's the lowest number since Richard Nixon was president in 1970, when agents encountered 201,780 at the southern border.
Compare that to Biden's disaster: over 2 million crossings in both 2022 and 2023.
Trump's enforcement drove encounters down 93% from Biden-era highs using nothing but existing law.
But here's what matters: Biden and every top Democrat spent years saying comprehensive immigration reform was the only solution.
They swore border security was impossible without Congress passing new laws.
Schumer Led The Lie For Decades
Chuck Schumer built his entire career on this con.
In February 2021, he called comprehensive immigration reform "one of the most important things this Congress can do."
He said the exact same thing in September 2024, vowing to "always fight for DREAMers and comprehensive immigration reform."
Nancy Pelosi told reporters in 2014 that border chaos was "a case for passing comprehensive immigration reform."
She doubled down in 2023, claiming the "strength of our democracy" depends on it.
Barack Obama jumped in during the 2021 crisis, saying it was "a painful reminder that we don't have this right yet."
He admitted as a nation-state we have to have borders – then immediately demanded Congress pass comprehensive immigration reform.
Kamala Harris made it a 2024 campaign promise, pledging to work with Congress on reform with a pathway to citizenship.
She accused Trump of "treating immigration as an issue to scare up votes."
Alejandro Mayorkas blamed congressional inaction from the White House podium in 2023 while declaring the border "not open."
He claimed the crisis stemmed from "Congress leaving a broken, outdated immigration system in place for over two decades."
Trump's Border Enforcement Stopped Illegal Immigration – No Immigration Reform Required
Trump terminated Biden's parole programs for Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
He ended catch-and-release.
He restored actual asylum processing instead of rubber-stamping everyone who claimed persecution.
Border Patrol reported zero parole releases in both May and June 2025.
ICE arrested hundreds of thousands of criminal aliens in Trump's first year – 70% of arrests were criminals with charges or convictions.
Daily border encounters collapsed after Trump took office.
Since February 2025, Border Patrol recorded fewer than 10,000 encounters monthly at the southwestern border.
Those are the lowest totals in over 25 years of data.
DHS estimates 2.2 million illegal aliens self-deported rather than face Trump's enforcement.
Compare that to Biden releasing migrants into the country by the hundreds of thousands, overwhelming border towns while waiting for Congress to save him.
ICE Deportations and Border Policy Changes Democrats Once Supported
Here's the kicker: Democrats used to say enforcement was essential.
Schumer declared in 2009 that "illegal immigration is wrong" and that stopping future illegal immigration must be "a primary goal of comprehensive immigration reform."
He called Americans "fundamentally pro-legal immigration and anti-illegal immigration."
Pelosi said in 2008 that "we certainly do not want any more coming in" and insisted border security was necessary.
Obama awarded a medal to Tom Homan – Trump's current Border Czar – for deportation work.
Then Trump won in 2016 and suddenly enforcement became "inhumane."
Suddenly the only solution was reform that would legalize millions and create citizenship pathways.
Even Liberal Sources Confirm Trump's Success
CBS News reported in October 2025 that crossings plummeted "amid the Trump administration's sweeping clampdown."
John Martin runs migrant shelters in El Paso.
He housed hundreds during Biden's chaos.
By late 2025, he wasn't housing a single migrant.
"If the goal is to decrease the number of individuals, I would say that appears to have been successful," Martin admitted.
The Migration Policy Institute confirmed Trump "set a new normal for migration flows in just a few months."
Their analyst noted Trump's policies "have had a significant effect on people being deterred from coming illegally."
What Democrats Really Wanted
Democrats realized illegal immigration served their political interests.
More immigrants meant more future Democratic voters.
Sanctuary cities became virtue signals.
"Abolish ICE" became progressive gospel.
But voters noticed their communities changing overnight.
Schools overwhelmed.
Hospitals packed.
Housing costs exploding.
Democrats cared more about illegal aliens than American citizens.
Trump won again in 2024 promising to finish what he started.
The Real Story
The border crisis was always a choice.
Democrats chose chaos because it helped them politically.
They released millions into the country hoping Congress would eventually amnesty them.
They blamed Republicans for blocking reform while refusing to enforce existing law.
Trump proved what border security looks like when a president actually wants to secure the border.
No new legislation required.
Just enforcement of laws already on the books.
Schumer can keep demanding reform – Americans now know he was lying the entire time.
