College Democrats Just Let a Man Dressed as Chairman Mao Lecture Their Kids

Jul 23, 2026

The Democrats let a man who called Mao Zedong "one of the great leaders of this world" take the stage at their national college convention.

Now that man showed up dressed as Mao – and the crowd cheered.

What he said while dressed that way has Democrats in full damage control mode.

What Happened at the 2026 College Democrats Convention

Hasan Piker – 10 million followers, proud DSA member, the man who said America "deserved" 9/11 – walked out in front of the College Democrats of America dressed in a Zhongshan suit, the signature uniform of Chairman Mao Zedong.

Piker told the crowd, "No more to the Democrats who will collaborate and cooperate with the fascists, who will fund ICE, who will fund Israel, who will help poison the planet."

The audience applauded.

He did it wearing the outfit of a man whose policies historians estimate killed between 45 and 65 million people – the deadliest peacetime mass murderer in human history.

Spencer Pratt put it plainly: "Mao killed more people than Hitler. If Hasan Piker had dressed like a Nazi, we'd have an appropriate outrage."

He's right.

The DSA Watch account that clipped the speech called it a "Hitler style speech." It was viewed over a million times.

Atlantic Council senior fellow Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib described what he was watching in real time: the transformation of Hasan Piker is nearing completion, dressed up as Chairman Mao while attempting a cultural takeover of the Democrat Party – "which is letting them in."

The last three words are the story.

This Is Not a Fringe Moment and It Was Never Going to Be

College Democrats of America did not stumble into this.

They invited Piker.

His appearance was co-sponsored by J Street, the so-called "pro-Israel" group that apparently now funds events where speakers demand Democrats stop funding Israel.

This is where the story stops being about one streamer in a costume and starts being about what the Democrat Party is becoming.

DSA-backed candidates have now won more than 30 primaries in the 2026 midterm cycle.

A 29-year-old DSA member named Melat Kiros just knocked off 15-term Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette – a Democrat who had been in office since 1997.

In New York, candidates backed by socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani swept congressional primaries.

Republicans' House campaign arm said it clearly: "The socialist takeover of the Democrat Party is no longer confined to deep-blue strongholds."

Piker himself was at the Denver victory party when Kiros won. He told Fox News that night: "It's coming to a city near you."

He wasn't threatening.

He was announcing.

The Democrats Who Are Still Pretending This Is Fine

One College Democrats of America board member – who asked not to be identified – admitted to Fox News Digital that hosting Piker is "antithetical to the party that common sense Democrats are trying to present to the American people before November's midterms."

That's a brave sentence.

But notice what it says and what it doesn't say.

It doesn't say: we made a mistake.

It doesn't say: we're distancing ourselves.

It says: this is bad optics before midterms.

That's the whole moderate Democrat argument right now – not that communism is wrong, but that communist cosplay is bad for the November map.

They're not fighting the socialist wave.

They're asking it to dress better until after the election.

He has previously said on camera: "I never would and never will criticize Mao Zedong. One of the great leaders of this world."

That clip is now circulating again.

Canary Mission, an antisemitism watchdog group, told Fox News Digital that Piker is "a malicious figure who has repeatedly faced criticism for rhetoric supporting terrorism" and that the College Democrats' decision to host him "reflects the growing influence of socialist and extremist voices within the Democratic Party."

That influence is no longer growing.

It's already there.

Your kids are in those convention rooms right now being told Mao was a great man.

The Democrat Party didn't resist the socialist wave.

It bought tickets and put Mao costumes on stage.
