Vice Presidential nominees have very little effect on Presidential races outside of a modest boost in their home state.
But that could prove decisive in 2024.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro owns a 63 percent approval rating in a Commonwealth whose Electoral College votes could well serve as the tipping point in this race.
However, Shapiro is Jewish.
And in the modern Democrat Party that is a red flag as the party base is totally supportive of Hamas and the Palestinians.
Harris knew she couldn’t afford to antagonize these voters both because they might riot at the convention in Chicago and because they may stay home in states like Michigan and Minnesota.
On CNN, liberal activist Van Jones spoke the plain truth about what picking Walz over Shapiro meant.
Jones explained that just because you supported the Palestinian cause didn’t make you anti-Semitic.
“Here’s the challenge you’ve got in this party. People don’t want to talk about it, we’ve got to talk about it,” Jones began.
Jones also discussed how the energy in the Democrat Party was clearly trending towards opposition to Israel.
“On the one hand, you have a lot of young people who are concerned about Gaza. You have a lot of Muslims and Arabs and others. They have not felt seen by the Biden administration. You started hearing that ‘Genocide Joe.’ That was building. That was building,” Jones added.
Jones admitted that the Walz pick would placate this crowd.
“And so, those folks needed to have a candidate they could feel comfortable with. This helps it in that regard,” Jones stated.

However, Jones was honest enough to admit that there was a current of anti-Semitism baked into the Democrat Party.
“But you also have anti-Semitism that’s gotten marbled into this party. You can be for the Palestinians without being an anti-Jewish bigot. But there are some anti-Jewish bigots out there,” Jones continued.

Jones admitted this was a major problem.
And Jones told CNN’s viewers there were no two ways about it; Harris caved in under pressure from the anti-Semitic forces on the Democrat Party.
“And there’s some disquiet now, and there has to be. How much of what just happened is caving in to some of these darker parts in the party? So, that’s gonna have to get worked out. That’s gonna have to get talked through,” Jones concluded.
