Chuck Schumer looked straight into the camera and told his donors the SAVE America Act was finished.
Now Vance is in Georgia telling conservatives exactly what Schumer is afraid they'll do next.
What he said should make every Democrat in a tight Senate race very nervous.
Schumer's Blocking a Bill 86 Percent of Americans Support
This is not complicated.
The SAVE America Act requires you to prove you're an American citizen before you register to vote in a federal election.
That's it.
Eighty-six percent of Americans support that – including majorities of Democrats and independents.
The House passed it in February along party lines.
Fifty Republican senators have lined up behind it.
And Chuck Schumer has his entire caucus lined up to filibuster it into the ground before the November midterms.
"It's just a cynical attempt by Donald Trump to steal the election," Schumer told donors on a Sunday call as Senate Republicans prepared to bring the bill to the floor this week.

Think about that sentence for a moment.
Requiring proof of citizenship to vote is, in Schumer's telling, stealing an election.
The man running Senate Democrats just told you that verifying voters are American citizens is something his party considers a threat.
Ask yourself why.
What JD Vance Said About the SAVE Act in Georgia
JD Vance was at a Turning Point USA event this week when someone in the audience asked the obvious question.
If Republicans have the Senate, why can't they pass a bill 86 percent of voters want?
Vance didn't dodge it.
"It is annoying to me that there are only 45 or 46 Republicans who will fight politically to get the SAVE Act passed," he said.
He's right to be annoyed – but here's the number that changes the entire story.
Ten years ago, that number was 35.
The Tea Party didn't transform the Republican Party in one election.

They showed up at town halls, they primaryed the weak ones, they came back the next cycle with senators who actually believed what they said they believed.
A decade of that pressure moved the needle from 35 fighters to 46.
Vance is telling conservatives to do the same thing again – but faster, because the midterms are eight months away.
Democrats Are Using the Filibuster to Kill Voter ID Before the Midterms
Senator Mike Lee, the bill's lead sponsor, put it plainly.
Prediction markets now show Democrats are the favorites to take back the Senate in November.
"Let's turn this around – by passing SAVE America," Lee posted.
Trump was even more direct.
If the SAVE America Act becomes law, he said, Republicans would "never lose a race."
"For 50 years, we won't lose a race,” he said.
Now you understand why Schumer called it dead on arrival.

This isn't about election security to Democrats.
It's about the math of who votes and who doesn't.
Democrats have spent thirty years fighting every attempt to verify voter eligibility because loose rolls and easy registration benefit them.
The SAVE America Act threatens that advantage directly – and they know it.
This Is the Fight Vance Is Asking You to Join
Florida just signed its own version of the SAVE Act into law.
South Dakota and Utah did the same thing.
Republican-led states aren't waiting on the Senate to find its spine.
Meanwhile, Restoration of America just dropped $5 million in ads targeting Senate Democrats and soft Republicans by name.
Senator Lindsey Graham is pushing to fold SAVE Act language into a broader legislative package.
Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso has said Republicans have other procedural tools ready if the filibuster holds.

The filibuster is the only thing standing between Schumer and a bill that the overwhelming majority of his own voters support.
He knows it.
That's why he's calling it dead on arrival instead of letting his members vote on it in public.
Vance knows it too.
"The answer to frustration is engagement," he told that room in Georgia. "Don't give up on this process. Get more involved in this process, and demand more from people like me."
Schumer is betting conservatives will check out before November.
Vance is betting they won't.
One of them is about to be proven wrong.
