Chuck Schumer Agreed With MSNBC Plan That Could Turn Minneapolis Into War Zone

Jan 17, 2026

Democrats escalated their war against law enforcement since the Renee Good shooting.

Tensions already reached a boiling point after anti-ICE protests turned violent across the country.

And Chuck Schumer agreed with an MSNBC plan that could turn Minneapolis into a war zone.

MSNBC Morning Joe Floats Plan to Confront ICE Agents in Minneapolis

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe and endorsed a stunning proposal from contributor Mike Barnicle to fly Democratic senators and New York City police officers to Minneapolis to physically confront ICE agents in the streets.

Barnicle suggested Schumer organize "a dozen Democratic senators and maybe a dozen New York City cops" to travel to Minneapolis and tell masked ICE officers "you are wrong, and they are right."

The MSNBC contributor framed the stunt as Democrats bringing "people who know how to operate" to lecture federal immigration enforcement agents.

"You are so right," Schumer immediately responded.

Schumer claimed he's spoken with police officers across the country who told him "these ICE agents are so totally untrained in police doctrine."

"They don't know what to do, how to do it, and it ends up even killing people and causing such mayhem," Schumer added.

The New York senator demanded police departments nationwide tell ICE agents "you don't know what the hell you're doing."

Democrats' Pattern of ICE Confrontations Escalated Throughout 2025

Schumer's endorsement of Barnicle's plan isn't theoretical fearmongering.

Democrats spent 2025 physically confronting federal immigration enforcement agents.

In June, federal agents handcuffed Senator Alex Padilla at a Department of Homeland Security press conference in Los Angeles after he attempted to disrupt the event without identifying himself as a sitting U.S. senator.

The FBI opened investigations into six Democratic lawmakers in November after they released a video urging military members to disobey orders from the Trump Administration.

Democratic mayors and governors joined violent anti-ICE protests throughout the year as the Trump Administration deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles, Memphis, and other cities.

Governor J.B. Pritzker accused Trump of "testing the limits" ahead of the 2026 midterms by deploying federal forces in Democratic cities.

Senator Chris Murphy warned Trump was signaling he'd "forgive political violence on his behalf in future elections."

The Department of Justice reported threats against ICE agents skyrocketed by more than 8,000 percent while assaults jumped over 1,000 percent compared to pre-2025 levels.

Renee Good Shooting Fuels Democrat Push to Defund ICE

The fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by an ICE agent on January 7th provided Democrats their newest justification for escalating rhetoric against federal immigration enforcement.

Good was shot after she accelerated her vehicle toward ICE agents during an operation targeting illegal aliens.

Secretary Kristi Noem defended the agent's actions as justified self-defense, but Democrats immediately seized on the incident to attack the entire ICE agency as "totally untrained."

A Quinnipiac poll showed 53% of registered voters believed the shooting was not justified, though 77% of Republicans said it was.

Schumer told MSNBC earlier in the week that Americans were "appalled" by ICE operations, falsely claiming agents were detaining American citizens "who have done nothing wrong."

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara warned that escalating rhetoric from political figures like Schumer was pushing the city "towards yet another tragedy."

Former Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo criticized the ICE agent's tactics but Democrats ignored his measured analysis in favor of demanding the entire agency be defunded or abolished.

Progressive lawmakers led by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Representative Delia Ramirez called for government shutdowns to strip ICE funding, though Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries initially rejected those demands.

Schumer's Plan Would Repeat Pattern That Already Led to Violence

Mike Barnicle's suggestion that Schumer endorsed mirrors tactics Democrats deployed throughout 2025 that resulted in escalating violence.

When Senator Padilla confronted federal agents without identifying himself at a Los Angeles press conference, the situation devolved into physical altercation with Padilla being restrained and handcuffed.

Protests in Minneapolis following the Good shooting featured demonstrators surrounding ICE vehicles, blowing whistles to alert illegal aliens to enforcement operations, and throwing objects at law enforcement.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey – who demanded ICE "get the fuck out" of his city – created an environment where anti-law enforcement protests turned confrontational.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson called ICE agents "secret police" who were "terrorizing communities," rhetoric that preceded violent clashes between protesters and federal agents in his city.

Flying senators and police officers to Minneapolis to physically confront ICE agents would guarantee the exact escalation Chief O'Hara warned against.

Barnicle's plan assumes New York City police officers would side with Democrats against their federal law enforcement counterparts conducting immigration enforcement operations authorized by the Trump Administration.

The White House documented 57 instances of Democrats declaring war on law enforcement through inflammatory rhetoric attacking ICE agents as "fascists," "terrorists," and comparing them to Nazi Germany.

Schumer himself previously declared ICE "does not belong in our neighborhoods" and joined Senator Elizabeth Warren in claiming the agency exists to "tear communities apart."

Schumer ICE Plan Tied to Democrat 2026 Midterm Strategy

Schumer told Morning Joe hosts that Democrats would win the Senate in 2026, revealing the political calculation behind his endorsement of physical confrontations with federal agents.

Democrats are positioning themselves as defenders of communities against Trump's immigration enforcement, gambling that scenes of conflict in cities like Minneapolis will mobilize their base ahead of the midterm elections.

The strategy mirrors accusations from Republican governors that Democrats are deliberately escalating tensions as part of a plan to undermine the 2026 elections.

Schumer's immediate agreement with Barnicle's inflammatory suggestion demonstrates how far Democrats will go to obstruct Trump's border security agenda.

The New York senator knows flying senators to Minneapolis to confront ICE agents would create made-for-television confrontations perfectly designed for left-wing media coverage.

When MSNBC contributors pitch ideas for senators to physically intervene in federal law enforcement operations and the Senate Minority Leader responds "you are so right," it's not political commentary.

It's a roadmap for manufactured chaos Democrats plan to deploy for political gain.
