Chipotle Just Gave Their Customers One Gift That Put Every Other Chain to Shame

Sep 6, 2025

Fast food chains love to ignore what their customers actually want.

They’d rather push whatever corporate thinks is trendy instead of listening to the folks who pay the bills.

But Chipotle just gave their customers one gift that put every other chain to shame.

Chipotle brings back their most-searched menu item

Starting September 4th, Chipotle is bringing back Carne Asada to restaurants across the United States and Canada.

And get this – they’re calling it their "most-searched menu item."¹

The steak features fresh grilled cuts seasoned with cumin, coriander, garlic, and oregano, finished with fresh lime and cilantro.

This marks the fourth time Carne Asada has returned to menus since Chipotle first rolled it out in 2019.

The timing isn’t coincidental either.

Chipotle is bringing back the fan favorite right as football season starts.

To celebrate, they’re running a special promotion on Monday, September 15 where customers can get a second entrée free if they wear a college football jersey after 5 p.m.

They’ve also teamed up with EA Sports for the College Football 26 video game, letting players sign virtual endorsement deals to promote Carne Asada in the game’s career mode.

And they’re eliminating delivery charges on all Carne Asada orders through their mobile app and website from September 8 through September 30.

The fast-food industry finally wakes up to customer demands

Here’s what Chipotle gets that most other fast food chains are just now figuring out.

When your customers tell you what they want – and they’re literally searching for it online more than anything else on your menu – you give it to them.

It took McDonald’s nine years to bring back the Snack Wrap after discontinuing it in 2016.²

Nine years of customers starting petitions, tweeting daily, and literally begging in drive-through lanes for something they loved.

One pregnant woman even emailed McDonald’s saying her biggest craving was "something I can’t have" – the Snack Wrap – and asking if it would return before her July due date.³

The Snack Wrap finally came back permanently on July 10, 2025, but only after McDonald’s suffered two consecutive quarters of declining sales.⁴

Compare that to Chipotle’s approach.

They track what people are searching for, see that Carne Asada is their most-requested item, and they bring it back regularly – this is the fourth time since 2019.

The smart money follows the data, not focus groups

Here’s what separates the winners from the losers in today’s fast food wars.

The winners are paying attention to real customer behavior instead of some consultant’s PowerPoint presentation.

Chipotle isn’t trying to be trendy or chase whatever food blogger is pushing this week.

They’re looking at search data, social media mentions, and actual customer requests.

Meanwhile, other chains are finally catching on to this revolutionary concept.

McDonald’s had to watch their sales crater before they realized maybe – just maybe – they should listen to the thousands of people asking for the Snack Wrap every single day.

Burger King brought back Cini Minis after years of customer requests.⁵

KFC finally returned Chicken & Waffles after five years away.⁶

Even Auntie Anne’s caved to social media pressure and brought back Sour Cream & Onion pretzel nuggets after nearly three years.⁷

Here’s the bottom line

For folks who actually eat at these places instead of just investing in their stock, Chipotle’s approach means something important.

You’re more likely to get what you want instead of what some corporate executive thinks you should want.

Other chains are scrambling to copy this customer-first model, but they’re playing catch-up.

While McDonald’s spent nearly a decade ignoring Snack Wrap fans, Chipotle has been regularly rotating fan favorites back onto the menu.

That’s the difference between a company that listens to its customers and one that thinks it knows better than the people spending money there.

The message is clear: the days of corporate food chains shoving unwanted menu items down customers’ throats are ending.

Companies that pay attention to what their customers are actually asking for – like Chipotle does with Carne Asada – are going to keep winning.

Those that don’t will keep watching their sales numbers drop until they finally get the hint.
