Bill Maher spent years warning the left had lost its mind.
Now he is sitting across from a man who thinks a three-year-old can choose a new gender – and even Maher cannot believe what he is hearing.
That moment happened on camera this week, and it is worse than you think.
The Podcast Moment Democrats Do Not Want You to See
David Cross – the Arrested Development actor – told Maher on the Club Random podcast that his daughter attends school with a child who transitioned at age three.
Three years old.
Maher's response landed immediately: "Kids are confused."
Cross did not back down.
Instead, Cross delivered what might be the most honest explanation of liberal parenting philosophy you will ever hear.
He said the Brooklyn bubble – the progressive enclave where he raises his daughter – is not for him or his wife.
It is for his daughter.
He wants to keep her inside the bubble to protect her from "the awfulness" outside it.

Read that again.
A grown man is telling you he deliberately insulates his child from the beliefs of the majority of Americans – and he calls that protection.
Maher called it what it is.
"This is what's wrong with the looney left," Maher told Cross directly. "They just die on the hills that are unnecessary to die on."
What Maher Got Right and What He Is Still Getting Wrong
Maher has been saying this for years: woke extremism handed Trump the election.
He said it to Cross's face: "As I always say to my woke friends, we voted for the same person. You're just why she lost."
That part is accurate.
Blueprint, a Democratic polling group, found that 67 percent of swing voters who broke for Trump said Democrats were too focused on identity politics in the last election cycle.
But Maher still cannot bring himself to say the obvious thing – that what Cross is describing is not just politically toxic.
It is harmful to a child.
A three-year-old cannot consent to a name change, let alone a social gender transition.
Every developmental psychologist who has not been captured by gender ideology will tell you that children at age three have no stable sense of identity at all.
They believe in Santa Claus.
They are terrified of the dark.
They cannot tie their shoes.
But David Cross wants you to believe one of them looked inward, assessed their gender, and made a permanent social determination about who they are.

Maher actually got there himself during the exchange.
"I knew somebody who said to me – a woman said, 'I was a tomboy. If I was alive now and acted the way I did then, that's what they would have done to me,'" Maher told Cross.
Cross replied that nobody was doing anything to his daughter's friend.
Maher shut it down: "Somebody is doing something because 8- or 9-year-olds can't do anything on their own."
The Bubble Is the Problem
Cross's "bubble" defense is the most revealing moment in the entire exchange.
He is not arguing that trans toddlers are scientifically sound.
He is arguing that his neighborhood agrees with him – and that is enough.
That is not a principle.
That is a zip code.
For the past four years, parents across the country fought school boards, hospitals, and state legislatures to stop exactly this ideology from reaching their children.
In Tennessee, Republican legislators passed a law protecting children from gender transitions before puberty.
In June 2025, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in United States v. Skrmetti to uphold it.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the opinion.
The Tennessee attorney general called it a win for "common sense" over kids being pushed into "irreversible decisions they cannot yet fully understand."
Twenty-five states now have similar protections in place.
David Cross's bubble is shrinking.
And the reason it is shrinking is that most American parents – including a lot of Democrats – look at a three-year-old being socially transitioned and feel exactly what Bill Maher felt in that moment.
Maher spent years being called a bigot for saying the left had gone too far on this.
Cross spent that same time defending the activists doing it.
Now Cross is on Maher's podcast explaining that his daughter's classmate chose a new gender at age three – and he is proud of it.
Maher still thinks the answer is better messaging.
He is wrong.
The answer is stopping it.
Trump figured that out in November 2024.
Voters did not leave the Democratic Party over messaging.
They saw a clip exactly like this one and believed their eyes.
