It’s all hands on deck during the closing weeks of the election to help put Vice President Kamala Harris in the White House.
Kamala is sending some of the elder statesmen in the Democrat Party to campaign for her in the closing days of the race.
Former President Barack Obama is doing a blitz of the swing states to energize younger and minority voters.
Democrats have struggled to win in the south this century so Kamala is turning to the last member of her party to have any success in the region.
Former President Bill Clinton is campaigning in the swing states of North Carolina and Georgia.
He’s doing smaller events like church functions and community fish fries where he can turn on the charm.
This is the type of retail campaigning that Clinton has done since his 1992 Presidential campaign.
Clinton traveled to the city of Albany in southwestern Georgia for an event at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
The black church was the type of friendly setting that the former President excels in.
But not all of the congregants weren’t interested in hearing him push Kamala on them.
72-year-old Joseph Parker was happy that Clinton was visiting the church, but told Politico that the world had changed since the former President was in office.
“Things were really different then,” Parker said.
This year he’s voting for former President Donald Trump – the first time in his life’s voted for a Republican for President.
Kamala’s message is connecting with Americans who are struggling
Parker said that he wanted to go back to the Trump economy.
“Trump’s a man of his word. What he says he’s gonna do, he does,” Parker explained. “And everything is so high now — groceries high, clothes, everything, gas. And four years ago, it wasn’t that high. And so people see the difference in Kamala Harris and Trump, and they want some of what they had four years ago. And I do, too.”
President Joe Biden won Georgia in the 2020 Election by about 12,000 votes.
This year, the state looks like it’s moving back into Trump’s column, based on polling.
Biden won about 88% of the black vote in 2020, but polling suggests that Trump has made inroads with black voters, especially black men.
28-year-old Arthur Beauford is voting for the first time in this Presidential election.
He’s voting for Trump despite coming from a family of Democrats.
Beauford pointed out that he heard from other young black men in the Atlanta area that they’re supporting Trump this year.
47-year-old Fabienne Durocher, a Haitian immigrant, moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia, from New York.
She voted for Biden in 2020 but is backing Trump this year.
“I’m going to tell you the truth. I didn’t like him. But now, I like him,” Durocher said about Trump. “I don’t like when Democrats are talking about abortion. I don’t want that. So I said, for that, I’m going to change my mind. I’m going to vote for Trump.”
