AOC Wore a Tax the Rich Dress to the Met Gala and Now Her Campaign Is Paying Bad Bunny’s Makeup Artist

Mar 17, 2026

AOC showed up to the Met Gala in a custom "Tax the Rich" gown and got busted by the House Ethics Committee for accepting the glamour services as gifts.

That was 2021.

Now FEC records show her campaign is cutting checks to the same celebrity agency that preps Bella Hadid and Bad Bunny – and she won't return a single call about it.

The Records Don't Lie

Federal Election Commission filings reviewed by the New York Post show AOC's campaign paid The Only Agency $670 on November 5 for "campaign event makeup services," then $693.08, then $665 five days later for "campaign event hair and makeup services."

Three payments.

$2,028 total – to a celebrity styling shop with offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Nashville.

The Only Agency starts at $600 for hair and $600 for makeup.

A top-rated salon in AOC's own Forest Hills neighborhood charges $100 for event hair and $150 for professional makeup.

Most candidates, the Post found, report closer to $100 to $200 total.

AOC paid ten times the going rate with donor money her supporters gave her to fight for working people.

The campaign did not return requests for comment.

The Woman Who Taught America to Do Its Own Makeup

This is what makes the story so brutal.

In 2019, AOC posted an Instagram tutorial walking her followers through her own makeup routine while lecturing them about the patriarchy.

"Women are expected to put 30 minutes to an hour into their appearance every day to look just as presentable as a man who puts in 10 minutes," she told her millions of followers.

The year after that, she filmed a full beauty routine for Vogue – drugstore products, signature red lip tips, the whole thing – while lamenting how hard it was as a young woman to be taken seriously on Capitol Hill.

She built an entire political persona around being relatable.

Authentic.

Do-it-yourself.

Then she hired Bella Hadid's makeup artist.

Makeup artist Jocelyn Biga posted the photos – AOC airbrushed, smoky brown eye, perfectly coiffed – after prepping her for the October Queens rally where AOC got glammed up on donor dimes.

"An honor to glam AOC for the 'New York is Not for Sale' rally at Forest Hills Stadium," Biga wrote on Instagram.

The only thing missing from that post was "Tax the Rich."

She's Been Running This Tab for Years

This isn't a one-time slip – it's a pattern.

In 2025 alone, AOC burned through more than $53,000 in campaign funds on four- and five-star hotels: the Langham Huntington in Pasadena, the Vdara Spa in Las Vegas, the Lansdowne Resort in Virginia.

She spent nearly $50,000 in Puerto Rico in a single reporting period – luxury hotels, high-end catering, and a $23,000 venue rental at the same arena where she was photographed dancing in a luxury suite during a Bad Bunny concert.

Earlier that spring, she flew first class alongside Bernie Sanders for their "Fight Oligarchy" tour.

She expensed a sushi dinner in New York City where the tasting menu runs $150 a head.

And before all of that – back when she wore the dress – the House Ethics Committee officially found she violated gift rules at the 2021 Met Gala, accepting impermissible gifts and paying below fair market value for a custom gown that cost the designer more than $6,000 to make.

RNC National Press Secretary Kiersten Pels didn't mince words: "AOC's favorite slogan is 'tax the rich,' but her campaign spending shows she'd rather live like the 1%."

Socialism for You, First Class for Her

Here's what your 65-year-old neighbor in Queens – the one AOC claims to represent – pays for a haircut.

Not $693.

The gap between what AOC preaches and how she lives isn't a mistake or a misunderstanding.

It's a business model.

She raises money off working people's anger at the wealthy, then spends that money living exactly like the people she's supposedly angry at.

Paul Kamenar of the National Legal and Policy Center – whose complaint triggered the House Ethics investigation into the Met Gala mess – called the latest spending "outrageous."

He's right.

But here's what's worse than outrageous.

The woman who filmed a makeup tutorial to connect with regular women just billed those same women's donations $670 for a smoky brown eye.

She's not fighting the oligarchy.

She is the oligarchy.
