Pete Hegseth just fired Navy Secretary John Phelan effective immediately.
AOC spent Thursday telling reporters Trump only has the ability to fire women.
Now she looks like she timed her complaint to land one day after it stopped being true.
The Claim AOC Made on Camera
A reporter asked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who Trump should fire next.
Her answer: "Is he out of women? Trump only seems to have the capability to fire female secretaries."
She kept going.
"If you're a man in the Trump administration, it seems that they reward misconduct,” she said.
She even threw in a reference to the Epstein files – suggesting the real filter for who stays and who goes isn't performance, it's gender.
Rep. Sarah McBride picked up the same talking point hours later, predicting Tulsi Gabbard would be next.

"We know this president. He only fires women," McBride said.
The left had their narrative locked in and ready to go.
What Actually Happened
John Phelan – a man – was fired by Pete Hegseth on Wednesday, April 22.
The firing followed a months-long clash between Phelan and Hegseth over how fast the Navy was building ships – Trump's signature military priority, and increasingly urgent with U.S. naval forces enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports.
Trump had become personally frustrated with the pace of shipbuilding progress.
During a White House meeting, he and Hegseth agreed the Navy needed new leadership – someone who could move fast.
Phelan was out before the day ended.
He wasn't alone.
Hegseth had already fired Army Chief of Staff General Randy George earlier in April – another man.
Before that, he removed the head of the Army's Transformation and Training Command and the Army's chief of chaplains – also men.

The pattern AOC described simply doesn't exist.
Why Trump Actually Fires People
Pam Bondi was removed over concerns about her handling of key legal matters.
Kristi Noem was ousted over disagreements on immigration enforcement strategy.
Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer was eased into the private sector.
John Phelan – a billionaire Trump donor who gave over $834,000 to Trump's 2024 campaign – got fired for moving too slowly on shipbuilding.
None of these firings were about gender.
That's what accountability looks like in an administration that actually holds people responsible.
AOC Built Her Narrative the Day After It Fell Apart
AOC has been throwing the sexism accusation against Trump for years. It lands with her base every single time regardless of evidence.
The problem is that reality keeps refusing to cooperate.
Trump has also fired, pushed out, or replaced dozens of male officials – inspectors general, generals, agency directors, service secretaries.
More than 30 senior military officers alone have been removed under Hegseth since January 2025.
Trump fires people who don't deliver.
That's the actual pattern.

The Navy Secretary was fired during an active war – while U.S. ships enforced a blockade on Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz carried 20% of the world's oil and gas supply.
Trump wanted faster shipbuilding. Phelan couldn't provide it.
That's the whole story.
AOC went on television and told America Trump only fires women – one day after he fired a man in charge of the U.S. Navy during a shooting war.
Democrats keep waiting for a gender scandal that isn't coming.
Trump is going to keep firing people who don't perform – men, women, generals, billionaire donors, career officials.
The only qualification is whether you're getting results.
AOC hasn't figured that out yet.
But John Phelan just found out the hard way.
