Democrats spent four years telling you the 2020 mail-in ballot system was perfect and anyone who questioned it was a threat to democracy.
Now one Obama-appointed judge just made sure that same system runs untouched through the 2026 midterms.
And she didn't just protect 23 Democrat states – she expanded the block to cover all 50.
The Judge Democrats Keep Calling to the Rescue
Judge Indira Talwani has become the left's most reliable emergency lever.
She blocked Trump from ending Biden's mass parole program for 530,000 migrants – the Supreme Court later overruled her.
She blocked Trump from pulling Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood.
She blocked Trump from creating a federal voter verification list.
Now she's blocking the U.S. Postal Service from implementing Trump's mail-in ballot security rules nationwide.
That's four major interventions in Trump's agenda from one Obama-appointed judge in Boston.
Talwani ruled Tuesday that Trump's executive order – which would require states to submit eligible voter lists to USPS before ballots get sent out – exceeds the president's constitutional authority.
"The Constitution does not grant the President any specific powers over elections," she wrote.
Here's what she left out: Trump's order doesn't create election rules.
It directs federal agencies to verify who's eligible to vote before sending out millions of ballots.
The Postmaster General made that crystal clear at a congressional hearing earlier this summer.
Sen. Gary Peters asked whether USPS would still mail ballots to states that refused to hand over voter verification lists.
"Under our proposed regulation, no," Postmaster General David Steiner said.
That's not disenfranchisement.
That's basic verification – the same kind you need to pick up a package at the post office.
What Democrats Are Actually Protecting
Trump signed Executive Order 14399 in March as part of his election integrity agenda.
The order directed DHS to compile lists of verified U.S. citizens eligible to vote and provide them to states.
It directed USPS to establish new standards for mail-in ballots.
It directed DOJ to investigate state officials who issue federal ballots to ineligible voters.
Twenty-three Democrat-led states and Washington, D.C. sued to block it.
California, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Washington led the charge – arguing that only states have authority over elections.
The 1st Circuit upheld the block in a 2-1 decision on July 25.
Trump took it to the Supreme Court.
And while that case was still pending before the justices, Talwani used the opening to expand her injunction from those states to cover all 50 – nationwide.

That's the move.
The League of Women Voters praised the ruling and declared mail voting a "sacred constitutional right" worth protecting at all costs.
The Heritage Foundation's fraud database has documented 239 proven absentee ballot fraud convictions since 1997.
A Heartland Institute and Rasmussen poll found that 21% of mail-in voters in 2020 admitted they voted in a state where they were no longer a permanent resident.
Another 21% admitted they filled out a ballot for a friend or family member.
Those aren't Republican talking points.
Those are self-reported admissions.
The Clock Is the Strategy
The Supreme Court case isn't just about legal merits.
Talwani herself acknowledged the calendar in Tuesday's ruling – noting that less than 90 days remain before November 3.
That timeline is the Democrats' weapon.
The logistics of standing up new USPS ballot verification rules with under 90 days to go are, by everyone's admission, nearly impossible.
Elections law expert Derek Muller at Notre Dame told reporters: "I think everyone agrees that it's not going to be implemented for 2026."

So Democrats have successfully run out the clock on election security for this cycle.
A judge they can count on, in a circuit they control, issued a block – then expanded it nationwide – with just enough time left that no court can realistically undo it before November 3.
That is not a legal strategy.
That is a political operation disguised as judicial review.
Trump told the truth in plain English: "Cheating on mail-in voting is legendary. It's horrible. Democrats want to use it for cheating."
And Democrats are calling the judge who just guaranteed it a hero of democracy.
