Biden spent four years telling Black Americans that Donald Trump was their enemy.
His entire campaign was built on it – the rallies, the ads, the media blitz pushing the idea that Trump was a racist who didn’t care about Black communities.
But on Wednesday, in the East Room of the White House, a woman who once faced dying in federal prison looked out at a room full of Black Americans and dismantled that entire narrative in one breath.
Alice Johnson Pardon Czar: The Life Sentence Trump Ended
Alice Johnson was sentenced to life in prison in 1997 for a nonviolent drug conviction in Memphis.
No violent crime. No possibility of parole. Just life – until Donald Trump walked into the Oval Office.
Trump commuted her sentence in 2018 and gave her a full pardon in 2020.
This year he made her America’s first-ever White House Pardon Czar – the person who now decides which prisoners deserve a second chance.
Wednesday, Johnson stood onstage next to the president and told the crowd that Trump hears Black Americans, cares for them, and that anyone claiming otherwise is wrong.
“Because he is,” she said.
Democrats have spent years calling Trump a racist. They have no answer for the woman standing at that podium.
Trump’s First Step Act vs. Biden’s 1994 Crime Bill
Here’s what the media won’t tell you.
The man Democrats spent four years calling the greatest threat to Black America is the same man who finally fixed the bill that put Alice Johnson in prison in the first place.
Biden didn’t just vote for the 1994 Crime Bill. He wrote it.
He championed it. He bragged about it on the Senate floor. And for thirty years, its mandatory minimum sentences packed federal prisons with nonviolent offenders – disproportionately Black men and women who made one mistake and paid for it with decades of their lives.
Alice Johnson was one of them.
Trump signed the First Step Act in 2018 – the most sweeping federal prison reform in a generation – and it began unwinding exactly the kind of sentences Biden helped create.
More than 3,100 inmates had their sentences reduced in just the first year alone.
Biden, meanwhile, spent his entire presidency unable to explain away what he authored thirty years before.
Trump Black Voters 2024: What the Numbers Actually Show
Trump didn’t just talk on Wednesday – he put numbers on the board.
Since taking office, African American employment has increased by 182,000.
Nearly half a million Black Americans have rejoined the labor force.
The Dow Jones broke 50,000 for the first time in history. The S&P cleared 7,000. Wages for workers have climbed $1,000 to $5,000 a year – faster than inflation that Biden handed Trump like a burning building.
The result at the ballot box was impossible to argue with.
Trump doubled his share of the Black vote between 2020 and 2024 – from 8% to 16% – the strongest performance by a Republican presidential candidate among Black voters since Gerald Ford in 1976.
That is not an accident.
That is what happens when a president delivers instead of just promising.
Biden’s entire strategy for holding Black voters was fear – convince them Trump was dangerous, that Republicans were their enemies, that the left was their only protection.
Alice Johnson is the answer to that strategy.
She spent 21 years in a cage under sentencing laws Biden himself championed. Trump is the one who freed her. Trump is the one who put her in charge of freeing others.
When she stood at that podium Wednesday and told that crowd that this president is for Black America, she wasn’t reading from a script.
She was telling her own story.
