A Top Democrat Made One Statement About Shutting Down Government That Had Conservatives Fuming

Jan 13, 2026

Democrats are desperate to protect the rogue agents who killed an innocent woman.

They'll blow up the country to do it.

And a top Democrat made one statement about shutting down government that had conservatives fuming.

Minnesota Congresswoman floats government shutdown to defund ICE

Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig became the latest Democrat to threaten shutting down the federal government over ICE enforcement.

Craig appeared on CNN's Laura Coates Live Thursday night and refused to rule out forcing a government shutdown to strip ICE of funding.

Host Laura Coates asked Craig point blank if she supported threatening a shutdown to curb ICE powers.

Craig danced around the question with Washington, D.C. politician-speak.

"All options have to be on the table," Craig stated.

The Minnesota Democrat claimed she'd look to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for "guidance" on how to proceed.

Craig tried to pivot to attacking Republicans over healthcare but her message was crystal clear.

Democrats are willing to shut down the government to protect illegal aliens and punish ICE agents doing their jobs.

The Minneapolis shooting ignited Democrat rage

Craig's shutdown threat came just 24 hours after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.

Federal officials said Good weaponized her vehicle and tried to run over ICE agents during an enforcement operation.

The agent fired defensive shots after Good attempted to mow down officers.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected the self-defense narrative and told ICE to "get the f*** out of Minneapolis."

Governor Tim Walz mobilized state resources and declared Friday a "Day of Unity" to honor Good.

Democrats seized on the shooting to attack Trump's immigration enforcement crackdown.

Progressive Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramila Jayapal immediately called for defunding ICE.

Senator Chris Murphy wrote that "Democrats cannot vote for a DHS budget that doesn't restrain the growing lawlessness of this agency."

Representative Delia Ramirez said the January 31 funding deadline is Democrats' "opportunity" to force changes at ICE.

Democrats are coordinating a strategy to use the government funding deadline as leverage.

Craig is drowning in Minnesota's massive fraud scandal

Craig's shutdown threat comes as she faces brutal scrutiny over Minnesota's multi-billion dollar welfare fraud scandal.

The state's Democrat leadership allowed an estimated $9 billion in taxpayer funds to get stolen through fake childcare centers and nonprofits.

Most of the 98 people federally indicted are of Somali descent.

Craig is running for Senate in 2026 and trying to distance herself from the scandal.

She's attacked her primary opponent Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan for being too close to the fraud crisis.

"We absolutely can't afford to let her be the nominee and put this Senate seat at risk," Craig told reporters.

But Craig spent years praising Governor Tim Walz even as the fraud schemes exploded under his watch.

She told the Daily Caller just weeks ago that Walz is "taking an aggressive approach to crack down on fraud."

Walz announced Monday he's abandoning his re-election campaign because of the scandal.

Now Craig wants voters to believe she's tough on fraud while threatening to shut down the government to protect illegal aliens.

Republicans see Minnesota as a pickup opportunity in 2026 after Walz's collapse.

The ICE shooting in Minneapolis gave Democrats a distraction from the fraud crisis.

But voters remember which party let billions in taxpayer dollars get stolen while they were focused on protecting illegal aliens from deportation.

Craig's shutdown threat proves Democrats learned nothing from their electoral disaster in 2024.

Trump won a mandate to secure the border and crack down on sanctuary cities enabling lawlessness.

Democrats responded by threatening to shut down the government unless Trump backs off ICE enforcement.

That's retreat mode.

Craig and her colleagues are betting voters care more about protecting illegal aliens than stopping fraud and enforcing immigration law.

Minnesota families who watched billions get stolen under Democrat leadership won't forget which side Craig chose when it mattered.
