Ronald Reagan was one of the most talented Presidents in history.
His legacy is going to continue to live on in entertainment.
And a country music legend is releasing one song by Ronald Reagan that left fans speechless.
Lee Greenwood will release a song that was partially written by Ronald Reagan
Country music legend Lee Greenwood is best known for his patriotic 1984 hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” that’s become a staple at rallies by President-elect Donald Trump.
But Greenwood is going to be getting an assist from another President for an upcoming song.
He and country music star Sara Evans are releasing songs that have President Ronald Reagan on the songwriter credits.
Reagan linked up with record producer Mike Curb, the founder of Curb Records, to write some songs back in the 1970s.
The 40th President of the United States met Curb at a Junior Achievement event in California during his final year as the state’s Governor in 1974.
Reagan became friends with Curb and asked for his help with composing some music for his 1976 Republican Primary challenge to President Gerald Ford.
Curb told Fox News that he and Reagan would write music together when they were stuck in California traffic.
“And so back in the ’70s, there’s so much traffic in California that I used to travel with them,” Curb recalled. “And on several occasions, we wrote songs together. One of them was the theme for the convention in 1980 that played. It was called, ‘Together, a New Beginning’ . . . several of our recording artists came to the convention. It was in Detroit that year . . . And then that song was sung at the convention.”
Ronald Reagan had a talent for music
Reagan lost the 1976 Republican Presidential Primary to Ford.
Curb said that Reagan wrote more music in the aftermath of that defeat as a way of expressing his disappointment.
“And then, we wrote a song called “God Has a Greater Plan” after he lost the election in ’76,” Curb said. “He was a little down and didn’t think he would run again. And I said to him, ‘God has a greater plan.’ And he said, ‘Oh, that’s what Nancy says,’ and then we wrote a song called ‘God as a Greater Plan’ . . . And then we wrote a third song, ‘We Can Begin the World Over Again,” which was all his lyrics.”
Producer Mark Joseph played the song for Greenwood who remade it into “Let’s Start the World Over Again.”
Greenwood finished the uncompleted song for last year’s biopic, Reagan.
“He said, ‘Ronald Reagan and Mike Curb tried to write a song,’” Greenwood told Fox News. “And he sent it to me, and he said, ‘It really isn’t – it was never completed.’ The idea was to make the world over, and how naive that is, but what a beautiful thought that is.”
“And I knew Ronald Reagan quite well, I knew Mike Curb pretty well – I was on his label for a while, and it gave me a chance to redo the song,” Greenwood continued. “And I redid the song for them, they loved it. I recorded the version, and it should be released shortly on their aftermarket album from the Reagan film.”
Greenwood used some of the lyrics to write a new song that celebrated Reagan’s belief that America was a symbol of freedom.
“These songs remind many generations of what (we fondly) recall of the ‘good old days’ in American society,” Curb said about the song. “In honestly reflecting what Reagan was at his core as an entertainer and centrist-focused, responsible, good and fair human being who was easy to get along with.”
Greenwood and Sara Evans’ songs will be released on the soundtrack inspired by the movie Reagan.
