A CBS Reporter Got Offended When Pete Hegseth Asked Americans to Pray for Our Troops

Mar 24, 2026

Democrats booed God at their own convention in 2012.

Now a CBS anchor just told you everything you need to know about how the media really feels about your faith.

Margaret Brennan couldn't hide it this time – and the White House made sure everyone saw.

What Pete Hegseth Said at the Pentagon That Margaret Brennan Couldn't Let Go

Pete Hegseth stood at the Pentagon podium Thursday morning honoring six U.S. service members killed in a plane crash during America's active military campaign against Iran.

He closed his remarks with a prayer.

"May Almighty God continue to bless our troops in this fight," Hegseth said. "And again, to the American people, please pray for them, every day, on bended knee, with your family, in your schools, in your churches, in the name of Jesus Christ."

Margaret Brennan's response was three dots and a restatement of what he said – nothing more.

"The Secretary of Defense tells the American public to pray for our troops on bended knee and invoke Jesus' name…."

That was it.

No commentary. Just the ellipsis. Just the implied eye roll.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders said what most Americans immediately thought: "Only in DC is something like this considered even remotely offensive."

The White House rapid response account was more direct: "Only a leftist 'reporter' would be offended by praying for our troops."

Hegseth's own press secretary, Kingsley Wilson, pointed out that Hegseth was asking Americans to do exactly what they have "been doing since George Washington prayed for our troops at Valley Forge."

This Is Exactly What They Think of You and Your Faith

Conservative pundit Jesse Kelly nailed the real significance of Brennan's post: "Every now and then, they just come right out and tell you what they think about you and your beliefs. Imagine what they say in private."

He's right.

This wasn't a mistake.

Brennan didn't accidentally post something that could be misread as condescending toward Christians.

She saw a Secretary of Defense honor fallen soldiers with a prayer invoking Jesus Christ – and she posted it as if it were a news alert about something alarming.

She went out of her way to say, effectively, "can you believe this guy?"

GOP strategist Steve Guest called it what it is: "She is attacking people of faith."

Pastor Josh Howerton put it bluntly: "If this seems even mildly controversial, it would legitimately blow your mind to read what the men who founded our nation did, said, and prayed in the name of Jesus Christ while governing."

Washington prayed at Valley Forge.

FDR personally wrote a prayer that was printed and distributed to every U.S. soldier in World War II.

General Patton handed out weather prayer cards before the Battle of the Bulge – and the skies cleared.

Margaret Brennan reacted to a prayer for our troops the way your average blue-check journalist reacts to someone saying something racist at a press conference.

The same reaction.

Same implied disgust.

CBS News and the Democratic Party Have a Long History of Attacking People of Faith

That's not a coincidence.

They removed God from their party platform in 2012.

Convention delegates booed when party leaders tried to put God back in.

The 2024 Democratic platform contained no mention of God, Lord, or Almighty – not once.

Now a CBS anchor sees a Secretary of Defense close a press conference honoring dead soldiers with "in the name of Jesus Christ" – and treats it like a scandal.

Ask yourself what Margaret Brennan says about believers when the cameras are off.

Then ask yourself why you'd trust her to tell you the truth about anything else.
