The mainstream media spent years calling Donald Trump a fascist, a dictator, an existential threat to democracy.
Now someone just tried to kill him at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
And a caller on The Breakfast Club walked right into Charlamagne tha God's studio and said the quiet part out loud.
The Moment That Silenced a Radio Host
"That's why people are trying to kill him," the caller said. "Because the media is pumping in their heads that this man is this, that, and the third."
Charlamagne tried the usual deflection – assassination attempts aren't anything new, presidents have always faced threats.
Co-host DJ Envy helpfully brought up someone throwing a shoe at George W. Bush.
The caller didn't flinch.
"I don't remember nobody trying to shoot his ear off," he said.

That's not a debating point. That's a fact.
The attempted assassination at Butler, Pennsylvania in July 2024 was the closest a sitting or former president had come to dying by gunshot since Ronald Reagan in 1981.
Now, just months later, a gunman named Cole Allen opened fire at the White House Correspondents' Dinner – a formal event filled with the very journalists and media figures who have spent nearly a decade telling their audiences that Donald Trump represents an unprecedented danger to America.
The Pattern the Media Won't Admit
Charlie Kirk was shot dead at a university event in Utah last September.
Now a gunman opens fire at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
These are not random acts by random disturbed people.
They are the downstream result of a media machine that spent nearly a decade telling its audience that Donald Trump is an existential threat to human civilization – and that stopping him justifies almost anything.
MSNBC ran segments comparing Trump to Hitler.
The New York Times editorial board called him a "unique threat."
Late-night television turned his dehumanization into comedy content, night after night, for half a decade.

Charlamagne's response to the caller was revealing.
Instead of engaging with the media responsibility argument, he pivoted immediately: "We can't sit here and act like he hasn't implemented policies that have made things worse."
So the media's job is to convince people that a man's policies are so dangerous that he deserves to die?
The left has spent years arguing that conservative speech causes violence, demanding platforms deplatform conservatives on exactly that theory.
They applied it to January 6th with prosecutorial aggression.
They will not apply it to themselves.
What the Caller Got Right
The caller wasn't a political analyst or a media critic. He was a regular American who picked up the phone and said what millions of people are thinking.
"The only thing that's changed is the way y'all have radicalized the media against Donald Trump," he said.
He's right.
Political opposition to presidents is as old as the republic.
But the volume, the intensity, and the dehumanization of the current media environment is historically extraordinary.
The caller also pushed back on the economic argument directly, telling Charlamagne that Trump's policies hadn't hurt him personally – and that he remembered clearly what gas prices and grocery bills looked like under Joe Biden.

That's where the media narrative collapses entirely.
They told their audiences Trump would cause economic catastrophe.
When he won in 2024 anyway, some of their most radicalized viewers didn't conclude the media was wrong.
They concluded the election needed to be stopped.
Federal investigators are still reviewing Cole Allen's background, writings, and possible motives.
But the question the establishment media refuses to ask is the one this anonymous caller already answered: when you spend years telling people a man is an apocalyptic threat, you don't get to act surprised when someone decides to act on it.
The media doesn't just cover politics.
They set the emotional temperature of the country.
They decide whether Trump is a flawed politician or a monster who must be stopped at any cost.
They made their choice years ago. Loudly, repeatedly, and without apology.
A caller on a radio show just told them what that choice costs.
They won't listen.
But millions of Americans already know he's right.
