The man who prayed over Donald Trump on Inauguration Day just walked into a Dearborn city council meeting and told them they have lost their city.
Now Dearborn's Muslim mayor is firing back – and the fight over what's really happening in America's most Arab city just went national.
And Pastor Lorenzo Sewell looked city officials in the eye Tuesday night and said what millions of Americans have been thinking.
The Pastor Democrats Can't Dismiss
Lorenzo Sewell is not some fringe provocateur.
He delivered one of the benedictions at Trump's second inauguration.
He spoke to a nationally televised audience at the 2024 Republican National Convention.
He came to faith after surviving gang life, a murdered brother, and a father imprisoned for murder – and turned 180 Church in Detroit into one of the most powerful Black conservative congregations in America.
When Lorenzo Sewell walks into a room, Democrats can't call him a racist.
They can't dismiss him as an outsider who doesn't understand urban communities.
And they certainly can't ignore him when he looks at Dearborn's Muslim mayor and says, "We will not have it anymore."
His grievance Tuesday night centered on what happened when activist Jake Lang was attacked at the Arbaeen March earlier this month.
Lang was punched from behind while holding a sign, chased back to his car, and video shows counterprotesters picking up rocks.
One person was arrested and is being held without bond while prosecutors determine charges.
Sewell told the city council that one arrest wasn't justice – it was favoritism dressed up as law enforcement.
"You are not up under American law," Sewell said. "You are up under Sharia law."
What Dearborn's Mayor Didn't Answer
Mayor Abdullah Hammoud got up and delivered a carefully prepared response about unity and belonging.
He said the city belongs to Christians and Muslims alike.
He said attacking Dearborn's Arab community means attacking the idea that all of us can belong to America at the same time.
What he didn't do is explain why the attacker who put Lang on video with rocks being thrown at him is still waiting for a charging decision.
What he didn't do is explain why a routine city council meeting required simultaneous deployment of the Michigan State Police, Wayne County Sheriff's Office, and Detroit Police Department.
Twenty-two people were arrested.

The Dearborn police chief had publicly begged residents to stay home ahead of the meeting.

The Bigger Picture Democrats Are Hiding
The Dearborn situation doesn't exist in isolation.
Two weeks ago, Abdul El-Sayed – the man Dearborn's mayor is enthusiastically supporting for the U.S. Senate – was caught on leaked audio explaining why he couldn't publicly comment on the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei.
The reason?
"There are a lot of people in Dearborn who are sad today," El-Sayed told his campaign staff.
A candidate for United States Senate in a swing state that voted for Trump in 2024 is calibrating his response to the death of America's most dangerous enemy based on the emotional preferences of one Michigan city.
El-Sayed won nearly 80% of the vote in Dearborn in the Democrat primary.
Democrats don't just want Dearborn's votes – they are now structuring their foreign policy positions around Dearborn's preferences.
When a major-party Senate nominee won't comment on a terrorist-sponsoring theocrat because he might upset his base, Sewell's warning about American cities stops sounding like hyperbole.
The Question the Media Won't Ask
For two decades, every time someone raises concerns about Dearborn, the media response is the same: fact-check, dismiss, label.

Not whether Dearborn has passed legislation requiring women to wear hijabs.
But the political weight of a concentrated Muslim electorate is now bending elected officials at the state and national level in ways no other American city could manage.
El-Sayed stayed silent on Khamenei because Dearborn was sad.
Hammoud rushed to El-Sayed's defense the moment his primary victory was called.
A black pastor who prayed at a presidential inauguration stood in front of a city council and begged for equal treatment under the law.
Lorenzo Sewell grew up watching Detroit get abandoned by politicians who took black votes for granted and delivered nothing.
He knows exactly what political favoritism looks like.
He walked into Dearborn Tuesday and called it by its name.
