The nomination of former Defense Department official Kash Patel to be FBI director by President-elect Donald Trump set off a political earthquake in the Washington, D.C. Swamp.
Patel is a loyal ally of Trump and someone who’s fought the Deep State and won when he helped expose the Russian collusion hoax as a staffer on the House Intelligence Committee in 2018.
He vowed to “shut down the FBI Hoover building on Day 1 and reopen it the next day as a museum of the Deep State.”
Patel is being subjected to the politics of personal destruction designed to tank his nomination in the Republican-controlled Senate next year.
Former FBI officials, journalists, and Democrats are running a smear campaign against him in hopes of making him too toxic to confirm.
The fate of Trump’s nominations will come down to a dozen or so establishment Republican Senators.
U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) is one of the most influential Senators in the Republican establishment wing.
Conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Cornyn if Patel would be confirmed by the Senate year.
“Yes, he will be,” Cornyn declared. “People I know and who I trust speak well of him and I’m looking forward to meeting with him.”
Cornyn revealed that Trump’s Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi “spoke highly of” Patel.
The Texas lawmaker is trying to get a meeting scheduled with Patel.
Cornyn, who lost a bid last to become Senate Majority Leader, said that he received great recommendations about the FBI director nominee and praised his “vast experience.”
The public support from Cornyn is a sign that most of the Republican establishment in the Senate is on board with the Patel nomination.

Patel has a wealth of experience as a federal public defender, Justice Department attorney, Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense, and National Security Council staffer.
Disgraced former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was fired for lying under oath about the investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
He’s been pushing a false narrative in the media that Patel is unqualified to serve as FBI director.
White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien ripped the attacks as “entirely politically motivated because he supports the President’s America First agenda.”
“There was a time when Democrats would have applauded a President for appointing someone with criminal defense experience and who is against the FBI surveilling American citizens — but that was a very different Democrat party,” O’Brien said.
The Swamp will fight tooth and nail to keep Kash Patel from being confirmed as the next FBI director.
But Republican establishment figures signing his praises is a good sign for him headed into a potentially nasty nomination fight.
