Marjorie Taylor Greene is ready to go to war against the Washington, D.C. Swamp.
She’s going to have some help on the outside.
And Marjorie Taylor Greene told Elon Musk to prepare for one fight that left Democrats reeling.
Wasteful government spending in the crosshairs of Elon Musk-led panel
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has tackled big challenges in his career, like making commercial space flight practical with his company, SpaceX.
He’s now facing what could be the biggest test of his life with slashing wasteful spending by the federal government.
President-elect Donald Trump appointed Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
DOGE is a panel that is tasked with finding wasteful spending by the government and coming up with a plan to get rid of it.
Musk and Ramaswamy will have some backup in Congress.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) tapped Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to chair the new Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) to help Musk’s DOGE deliver on its goal of cutting wasteful spending.
The DOGE subcommittee won’t get started until next year but Greene already has her sights set on potential cuts.
She revealed that taxpayer funding for NPR and PBS, the Post Office, sanctuary cities, and the Department of Defense could all face spending cuts during an appearance on the John Solomon Reports podcast.
“We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to change the course that we’re on, and the American people deserve it,” Greene said.
A battle with sanctuary cities is coming
Greene’s experience running a small construction company where she had to make sure the books were balanced every month will help her with her role as the DOGE Subcommittee chair.
“It shouldn’t be about any of us in Washington,” Greene explained. “It truly should be what I’ve called for all along: the American people are the customer and the federal government needs to make sure that it’s delivering the best customer service possible.”
She said that the billions of dollars being funneled by the Biden-Harris administration to sanctuary cities should be on the chopping block if they obstruct the incoming Trump administration’s efforts to deport illegal aliens.
“These Governors and Mayors are coming out and saying they’re going to harbor illegal aliens and they’re going to fight President Trump’s administration,” Greene said. “They’re going to fight [“Border Czar”] Tom Homan, they’re going to fight ICE and they’re planning to use their own police forces to do it.”
Spending cuts can be used as leverage to get Democrats to comply with deportations.
“I think that’s a place we can take a massive spending cut if we’re going to have mayors and governors virtually committing treason against the administration, against the American people, by harboring noncitizens that don’t belong in our country,” Greene added.
She plans to use the subcommittee to highlight wasteful spending and give pointless government agencies a chance to explain what value they provide taxpayers.
“There’s so many government programs that are outdated, and so that shouldn’t be a problem,” Greene noted. “And that’s what I look forward to, is doing hearings to basically bring in department heads, bring in grant recipients, bring in many people, the unelected bureaucrats that have been in charge of federal spending, federal programs, federal departments, and all types of grant recipients and ask why do you think the American people should continue spending on this, And we let them make their case.”
DOGE could be the chance to take a sledgehammer to wasteful government spending.
