California is shaping up to be ground zero for the resistance against Donald Trump.
The state’s leaders have bitten off more than they can chew.
And a California Democrat issued one threat to Donald Trump that will cost this party dearly.
California plans on paying for attorneys for illegal aliens to protect against deportation
President-elect Donald Trump is planning to launch the largest mass deportation operation against illegal aliens on day one when he takes office next January.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he was calling a special session of the State Legislature shortly after Trump’s victory to protect his state against the incoming administration.
One of the topics to be discussed is protecting illegal aliens from the state against being deported.
California has the largest population of illegal aliens in the country with an estimated five million in the state.
U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) vowed that California will use taxpayer money for “legal assistance, legal advice, legal support” for illegal aliens when Trump takes office during an appearance on CBS News’ Face the Nation.
Host Major Garrett noted that Newsom has called for a special session of the legislature after Trump’s win.
“Will some of that money also be set aside to protect migrants and undocumented immigrants in California as they seek either legal advice or continued legal financial backing to support their efforts to stay within California and the United States?” Garrett asked.
“Yes,” Padilla replied. “Again, if the first Trump administration is any indicator, we know that there will continue to be a lot of fear in communities and communities that deserve to know what their rights are and what their rights are – are not.”
Padilla vowed the criminals who broke the law entering the country would have a suite of taxpayer-funded legal support.
“And so, if it’s legal assistance, legal advice, legal support, that’s just the California way,” Padilla said. “We embrace our diversity. Our diversity is what has made our communities thrive and our economy thrive. And so we will assist families against the threats of the Trump administration.”
California’s scheme to protect illegal aliens has one big problem
Newsom is gearing up for legal warfare and other schemes to resist the incoming Trump administration.
California doled out $24 million in taxpayer money last year to pay for the legal defense of illegal aliens facing deportation.
The state spent an additional $37 million on legal help for legal and illegal immigrants last year.
Assemblyman Bill Essayli (R-CA) scoffed at this additional waste of taxpayer money.
“The idea that we would use our tax dollars to defend criminal illegal immigrants is outrageous,” Essayli wrote on X. “How about we use that money to support the victims of the crimes committed by illegal immigrants?”
Newsom is planning to parlay his battles against Trump into a Presidential bid in 2028.
But his ambitious plans are running headfirst into the reality that California is broke under him.
The state has a $2 billion deficit that’s going to explode to $20 billion next year.
Now Newsom wants to spend $100 million fighting the Trump administration.
“There is really no capacity for new commitments because we do estimate there to be pretty significant operating deficits in subsequent years,” California legislative analyst Gabriel Petek said.
California is too broke to spend more of its taxpayers’ hard-earned money helping illegal aliens.
