There is no shortage of bad blood between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Trump and Biden finally met in the election’s aftermath.
And Joe Biden said two words to Donald Trump that no one ever expected to hear.
Trump and Joe Biden meet in the Oval Office
Joe Biden showed he and other Democrats were lying when they attacked Donald Trump as Adolf Hitler reincarnated and a threat to democracy by welcoming Trump to the Oval Office.
Biden and Trump only were in each other’s presence this year on two previous occasions.
One was the June 27 debate where Biden’s senile performance ended his political career.
The other was at the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
This was their first extended meeting.
Biden told Trump he hoped for a smooth transition and would do everything to make sure that took place.
“Looking forward to having, like we said, a smooth transition,” Biden stated. “Do everything we can to make sure you’re accommodated.”
Biden then nodded to Trump’s place in history as only the second President to serve two nonconsecutive terms by telling Trump, “Welcome back.”
“We’re gonna get a chance to talk to us on that today. Welcome, welcome back,” Biden added.
Donald Trump acted magnanimously in victory and told Biden that politics is a “tough” business but that today they could put all of that behind them to show the American people democracy worked.
“Politics is tough, and it’s in many cases not a very nice world, but it is a nice world today,” Trump said. “I appreciate it very much. A transition that’s so smooth, it’ll be as smooth as it can get,” Trump added.
Trump also showed deference to Biden and didn’t take questions when reporters began shouting them out because Biden is incapable of thinking on his feet to answer questions without prepared answers at the ready.
Trump received praise in the media
It’s not often academics and the media praise Trump.
But Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley went on MSNBC and said it was a good sight for the country to see Biden and Trump sitting in the Oval Office acting like normal in a Presidential transition following one of the most turbulent elections in American history.
“Well, 2024 was a strange and brutal political year. Joe Biden not doing his Super Bowl commercial, the moving of the presidential debates to the spring instead of the fall, the deer in the headlights performance by Biden, Harris becoming the Democratic Party nominee, Trump being shot at Butler, we can go on and on and on,” Brinkley added.
Brinkley noted that this meeting would go a long way toward lowering the political temperature and helping the Left accept the outcome of the election.
“It has been kind of a surreal carnival, and this has a calming effect. It’s towards the end of the year. Thanksgiving is coming. Some people feel thank goodness the election is over and just seeing the photos of the two of them together in a genial fashion, assumably talking a lot about public policy and world affairs, it’s heartwarming and reminds us we can go on. It is the absolute right thing for both Trump and Biden to be doing right now,” Brinkley concluded.
The one thing that’s for certain about Donald Trump is nothing is for certain.
Trump always has the capacity to surprise.
And Trump put that trademark characteristic on display yet again.
