Donald Trump is headed back to the White House in January.
The Left is already gearing up their resistance.
And Gavin Newsom started one fight with Donald Trump he’s going to live to regret.
Gavin Newsom fires the first shot at Donald Trump
Democrats made a show of resisting President-elect Donald Trump during his first term office.
His administration fought bogus lawsuits from blue states from Democrat politicians who wanted to use a feud with Trump to build their political profile.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he was calling a special session of the state legislature to prepare the state for the incoming Trump administration.
The special session will be used to protect abortion-on-demand, illegal aliens, green energy, and other left-wing priorities.
“The freedoms we hold dear in California are under attack — and we won’t sit idle,” Newsom said. “California has faced this challenge before, and we know how to respond.”
California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) – a potential candidate for Governor in 2026 – said he was itching for a legal fight with the incoming Trump administration over deporting illegal aliens.
“I can promise to the undocumented immigrant community in California that I and my team have been thinking about you for months, and the harm that might come from the Trump administration 2.0. We’ll do everything in our power and use the full authority of our office to defend you,” Bonta stated.
The battle for 2028 Democrat Presidential nomination is underway
Newsom calling a special session of the legislature and battling Trump is about political opportunity rather than doing anything meaningful.
He put his name in the headlines across the country by picking that fight.
The California Governor acted like a Presidential candidate in everything but name before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July.
Starting with the 2022 Midterm Elections, he traveled the country to boost local Democrat Parties.
Newsom picked a high profile fight with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during his 2022 re-election race.
He ran TV ads on Fox News in Florida with money from his campaign attacking DeSantis.
Trump coined the nickname “Newscum” for Newsom and has slammed the California Governor for turning his state into a hellhole.
Newsom has a foil in Trump that he can battle with over the next four years to keep his name in the news.
He’s already jockeying for the 2028 Democrat Presidential Primary.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ political career is over after she was routed in the election.
The Democrat nomination is wide open, and candidates are beginning positioning themselves to launch a Presidential campaign after the 2026 Midterm Election.
Democrats are likely to have a large field of contenders, including Newsom, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and a host of others.
A crowded field means that Democrat contenders will be fighting to get themselves in front of a camera and pick fights with Trump.
Gavin Newsom is the first of many Democrats who will try to show off their anti-Trump bonafides over the next couple years.
