Opening statements in Alvin Bragg’s criminal prosecution against Donald Trump are underway.
A former President is on trial for the first time in American history in the most blatant act of election interference.
But this surprise witness just torpedoed Alvin Bragg’s case against Donald Trump.
Michael Avenatti says he’s been in touch with Trump’s legal team
Of all the people to come to Donald Trump’s aid, no one would have guessed it would be Michael Avenatti.
Avenatti defended Stormy Daniels when she came forward with her allegations of an affair with Donald Trump in 2006.
Michael Cohen paying Daniels $130,000 as part of a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) in October of 2016 is the centerpiece of Bragg’s fabricated criminal charges against Trump.
Avenatti made hundreds of appearances on CNN and MSNBC.
He was on TV so much that he slept at MSNBC headquarters.
But in the most insane plot twist anyone can recall, Avenatti told the New York Post that he’s been in touch with Trump’s legal team about testifying.
“The defense has contacted me,” Avenatti told the Post. “I’d be more than happy to testify, I don’t know that I will be called to testify, but I have been in touch with Trump’s defense for the better part of a year.”
Avenatti represented Daniels at a time when the federal prosecutors investigated the payment to her as an illegal campaign contribution.
But they closed the case without charging Trump because he did nothing wrong.
If anyone knows this case – and Daniels – inside and out, it’s Michael Avenatti.
Avenatti slams the charges against Trump as politically motivated
In his interview with the Post, Avenatti tore into the criminal charges against Trump as bogus indictments brought for political reasons.
“There’s no question [the trial] is politically motivated because they’re concerned that he may be reelected,” Avenatti added. “If the defendant was anyone other than Donald Trump, this case would not have been brought at this time, and for the government to attempt to bring this case and convict him in an effort to prevent tens of millions of people from voting for him, I think it’s just flat out wrong, and atrocious.”
Avenatti is a lawyer.
And Avenatti knows Bragg’s contention that the payment to Daniels was criminal election interference is nonsense.
This is the criminalization of politics, plain and simple.
Avenatti told the Post that Democrats indicting Donald Trump four different times was overkill that would backfire since the voters saw it as his opponents weaponizing the legal system to take out their leading opponent.
“I’m really bothered by the fact that Trump, in my view, has been targeted. Four cases is just over the top and I think there’s a significant chance that this is going to all backfire and is going to propel him to the White House,” Avenatti continued.
Avenatti blasts Daniels’ credibility
Avenatti also told the Post he couldn’t imagine putting Daniels on the witness stand, as he suggested she would perjure herself.
“Stormy Daniels is going to say whatever she believes is going to assist Stormy Daniels and put more money in her pocket,” Avenatti declared. “If Stormy Daniels’ lips are moving, she’s lying for money.”
Avenatti also said Daniels would make a poor witness since she previously claimed to have possessed a haunted doll named Susan and communicated with dead people.
“I don’t know how you can possibly put someone who makes those claims on the witness stand and use them as a star witness in a case against a former President of the United States who’s running for President. That is just absolutely ludicrous to me,” Avenatti concluded.
Avenatti said he came forward because the case against Trump is an abomination.
Bragg has no jurisdiction over federal campaign finance laws.
If the feds thought Trump committed a crime, then they would have charged him with one.
And no one would know that better than Michael Avenatti, the man who represented Stormy Daniels during what he now admits was a witch hunt.
