Alina Habba just made Letitia James wish she’d never picked this fight

Letitia James campaigned for New York Attorney General on a promise to get Donald Trump.

But now James is starting to lose in court.

And Alina Habba just made Letitia James wish she’d never picked this fight.

Judge rules against James’ bid to void Trump’s bond

A New York Court of Appeals reduced the bond Trump had to post in order to appeal Democrat Judge Arthur Engoron’s civil fraud judgment in James’ lawsuit against the Trump Organization from $464 million to $175 million.

Engoron set the $464 million figure knowing that no bank would agree to put up that much money on anyone’s behalf, meaning that James could begin seizing properties like Trump Tower and selling them off once he couldn’t come up with the bond.

The appeals court lowering the bond to $175 million was seen as an early sign that the higher courts in New York realized this decision was nothing more than Trump’s political opponents seeking their pound of flesh and that the judgment would get thrown out on appeal.

New York is the financial capital of the world, and allowing the judgment to stand would send the message that you can only do business in the Empire State as long as you stay on the good side of politicians.

James tried to get the courts to void the bond by arguing that the company that posted the money was located in California and not qualified to post a bond in New York and that it lacked sufficient assets for collateral.

Alina Habba celebrates the victory

Trump lawyer Alina Habba expressed her disgust of James’ sustained campaign of legal warfare against Trump with reporters.

“A complete waste of time and taxpayer money, once again,” Habba stated.

Habba noted that Trump was fighting Democrat prosecutors in both civil and criminal court because Joe Biden knows that he can’t defeat him at the ballot box.

“The fact that we have two courts, one criminal and civil, being used against one man because they cannot beat him in the polls is a disgrace to the American judicial system,” Habba said Monday. “He should not have two teams of lawyers here today. He should not even be here today because he did nothing wrong. It is the epitome of a witch hunt.”’

Habba also took aim at James’ harassment of Trump by saying the bond was sound and that it was backed up by the cash in Trump’s bank accounts, which contained well over $175 million.

“Ms. James wanted to argue and say that our cash somehow isn’t green enough,” Habba concluded. “This is where your tax dollars are going to America, right here, witch hunt after witch hunt.”

James is a vindictive partisan prosecutor who has every intention of fulfilling her campaign promise of weaponizing her office to take down Donald Trump.

But now courts are getting cold feet since James is playing with live ammo, and all New Yorkers will have to live with the precedent that she sets.
